How long did you brake pads/rotors last?

On my '11 (5.5 years old) with 35,000 miles (NYC traffic, 20,000 of them in last 2 years) I was told by my independent mechanic that I will need new pads in 1,000 miles.

As far as rotors - he said I don't need a new ones unless I feel vibration/pulsation when slowing down from high speed. I don't really feel any vibration, maybe a bit of pulsation but I am not sure.

How long did you brake pads/rotors last?

With my previous '08 WK I went 6 years and 65k on the original rotors (still perfectly fine before I traded it in). I think I changed the pads to ceramics a year or two in because of the amount of brake dust the OEM pads produced.

Re: How long did you brake pads/rotors last?

I'm at 67K miles and my brakes are still not even close to needing serviced. I don't use them that much... Seriously, I'm a conservative driver and also do a lot of highway miles. My spouse, on the other hand, went through them on her vehicle in about 40K miles. She drives more aggressively and also does mostly local driving.

Re: How long did you brake pads/rotors last?

Brooklyn/Manhattan traffic eats up rotors and pads.

Your mechanic is right. If you dont believe him take the rims off and have a look at the pads and rotors for yourself.

With that said, I switched out my stock brembo pads for wagner thermoquiets when the jeep had like 800 miles on it, I am at almost 16k now and they (the pads) are about 70 percent worn.

NYC abuses vehicles.

My '11 Limited with the 5.7l with the HD brakes and towing my 3700lbs pop-up camper a few times a year.... I'm at 91k miles on the stock rotors and pads. They are now just starting to vibrate and will need replacing. I'm in DC metro and traffic here sucks!

Re: How long did you brake pads/rotors last?

I always just put new rotors on...

He's going to have to turn the old ones anyway... pop on a new set of decent rotors and just be done with it.

IMHO, of course.
