How do the shocks support the vehicle? It provides dampening - and the rear has the coil spring mounted separately on the LCA. So, I need some clarification as how changing the rear shock provides lift.

And the rear shock is branded Icon, not Bilstein.

Is that with the Icon kit installed?

Yes, as the springs slide past the threaded body, it will make noise. Along with the valves clicking in the shock.

Doctor, I think "supports" is being used in the other meaning... like a mobile phone supports LTE. It certainly doesn't carry the weight of the towers, hey?

Also, I have not seen a coilover where the coil has contact with the shock body. That would be awful, so I think that point is wrong. Don't know about clicking valves either...

Cheers,
Steve

No, to be honest... but I'd love to see you go ahead

I've accepted that the car is different and I need to accept the limitations more than I have in the past. I'm not sure that the range of suspension travel is viable to do the kinds of things we've enjoyed with previous set-ups, regardless of the money thrown at it. It's not the suggestion of extra noise that would put me off though... I've got a suspicion that it's not going to be quite as bad as being rumoured. Don't hang me if I'm wrong though!

If you do want as much as a WK2 could offer in the rough, it's all going to be about the valving of the shocks. A bit of extra height and heavier coils... yeah, whatever... it's not going to make a huge difference to bump performance IMO. Shocks do the work. Also... go too high and bump performance might get worse through loss of downward travel. I forgot to mention I also had the Icon upper control arms, which provided extra ride height plus more down travel. Now if we could get something like this it would be great.

There's nothing easy about being the first person to shell out on a big dollar modification. Good luck deciding how much money you can throw at making your Jeep the best it could be.

Cheers,
Steve

I can say from owning a set of Icon 3.0 shocks, upper control arms and bumpstops on another vehicle, they do slightly increase noise, viberations.. Do to the fact they do not use rubber or poly bushings. The improvement over stock is well worth the minor noise and viberations..
Talk to Dylan Evans at ICON, he knows his stuff and won't bullshit you..

No is not with the Icons installed. Looks go though right.

Who is claiming they lift the back with a shock? not Icon.

I just spoke with King an they have coil overs coming out for the WK2 in a month or so. I might go with them if I'm not pleased with the 5100s I just ordered. Hope they don't have noise issues like the Icons. I've heard King often goes with a slightly lighter spring than Icon often does and King had progressive valving where Icon had digressive so they may be a little smoother with less vibration.

Any external bypass shock is going to be noisy.. King shocks are notoriously noisy shocks to the point they sounds like something is falling off the truck.
On my Raptor the Icons are quiet until you hit a section of washboard at speed, then you can hear them...

Re: Icon Dynamics 2.5" Coilover kit

On my previous truck (chevy 5100) I had the 5100s and then the Icons, I can tell you the 5100s were a 25% increase in handling and bottoming out VS the stock shocks and the Icons made a 40% increase VS stock...

The valving on the rear Icon shocks was very stiff, ended up replacing them with Bilstein 5100s after only one week of use, the Bilstein 5100s was super confortable specially with the rear dealer add a packs that replace the overload leaf.

Both where definitely worth it, will probably go 5100s this time because I feel i don't need that much of an improvement, I like the ride on washboard type roads.

Re: Icon Dynamics 2.5" Coilover kit

FYI everyone...2016, Jeep added a bracket to the front strut that attaches to the sway bar. The ICON lift kit will not work on the 2016....any kit that replaces the strut up front, will not work on the 2016.
