I just put spacers on as well, and also slightly lowered my QL with adjuster links. I have the same steering shimmy between 60-70 mph.
I thought it had something to do with the O-rings on the hubs (I guess they hold the brake rotor on?). I initially forgot to take one o-ring off in the front, so I thought that was causing the problem. Now that I have them all off, I still have the shimmy in the wheel.
One of the managers at America's Tire took it upon himself to try to correct the issue himself. He mentioned that he torqued it at a different setting, which appears to have alleviated the issue. It still has very minimal vibration but feels significantly more stable.

Rotate the wheels/tires front to rear and see if the vibration/shimmy changes or moves to the rear. That should tell you if it's one of the spacers or one of the wheel/tire combos. Check the wheel weights and see if one tire took an excessive amount of weight to balance. If so you may have to spin that tire 90 degrees on the rim and then rebalance. An alignment should help with the drift.
I'm in the same boat. Added 275/55/20 Cooper AT3 tires, lift, and bora 1" front and 1.25" spacers. A noticeable vibration when going over 50 as well. There's a place here in town that shaves high spots off your tires and road force balances them. Supposed to work magic. Hopefully that alleviates the issue.
I've road force balanced my tires on our last 3 vehicles and I absolutely swear by it. The tire is rotated on the rim to match high and low spots. The balancer can tell if a different tire, from your set, should be swapped to a different wheel. It should only take 2-3 weights.
I've asked to speak to the tech on the last two before he started. I tipped him $5 and stressed I'm a car guy and want it done correctly. I don't honestly think they would take the time to match a tire to a different wheel otherwise. Both times the tech said he did end up having to swap. The $5 is worth the piece of mind.
America's Tire did a good job investigating the issue. They road forced all tires and learned that a couple of them were bad (or just had too much rubber than the other). They replaced the tires and all issues went away.
Hopefully it's all figured out now and it was a tire/wheel balance issue. I removed my spacers shortly after installing them because it was hard for me to swallow the whole 40 lug nut thing. I didn't have a balance issue with them, but I found some lugs seemed to rotate the entire stud on the bora spacer not allowing it to get fully torqued. Off they went.
i've lifted 3 vehicles ... all looked awesome lifted.... all drove "less nice" after. (83 cj7, 2001 WJ, 2012 F150)
my WJ was one of the early s4w teraflex lifts, so horrible took it off after a year, eventually put coil spacers and wheel spacers on. Eventually took those off too.
on this jeep I'm determined not to mess with the ride .... time will tell, they look so good modified but I hate degrading the long distance cruising just for looks. Nowadays vehicles are so tightly engineered that small differences like wheel spacers and offset can really echo throughout the rig - even the way wind hits the front tires/tread design can affect them.
Well I ordered some spacers just to see what they look like and if they affect the ride. I've driven JK's on 37's so I know about affecting ride quality.
do you have yours yet? I couldn't help myself, ordered BORA 1" front 1.25" rear but they haven't shipped yet ... still trying to decide if it's a good idea or if I'll regret it
my plan is to stay with p-rated tires though, hoping they'll keep the ride good
I'm about to just order new wheels that are the right offset and see if that helps. The vibration is killing me and I don't want to be chasing my tail trying to fix/rebalance my tires if it's the spacers causing it. I would just take off the fronts too see if that helps but unfortunately I just dislocated and broke a finger so lifting a big tire doesn't seem too fun right now.
Make sure you go to a tire shop that knows what they are doing - I had my Duratracs mounted on 2 separate sets of wheels - 1st shop (friend at VW dealer) had a shimmy @ 60 mph - 2nd shop (deals with off-road tires and lifts) did it right with no problems.
Anything that's even a 'little' off will be magnified with larger tires and spacers
true, but a lot of times i'm just a stubborn jackass about stuff like this
i've ordered the spacers so dunno if they figure i'm already a customer or what, either way i'll wait for them to arrive then decide if i return them or not
