Jeep 4x4 question

Please forgive me for my ignorance. I just acquired a used 2014 Grand Cherokee Limited and am curious if the Jeep is a full time 4x4 or rear wheel drive on normal conditions. I asked my sales person from the Jeep dealership and he told me that the Jeep is front wheel drive first and that the rear wheels only kicks in when needed. That was not i was expecting to hear.
Can someone please help me see the truth?

Re: Jeep 4x4 question

The limited is full time 4wd with variable torque split between front and rear.

All of the available 4WD drivetrains are full time 4WD.

Be careful making that a flat out statement for all Jeeps. The Cherokees are normally in front wheel drive unless 4 wheel drive is called for or you place it in 4 wheel drive.

I wasn't talking about "all Jeeps". This is the Grand Cherokee discussion area...and my statement was relative to the JGC. That's what the OP was asking about.

I will just keep my comments to myself from now on. I find this site extremely unfriendly unless you are part of the "in group".

Memo to FCA:
Forget about trying to come up the latest tech and focus on basics like training your salepeople. I'll bet sales would increase markedly.

For fear of saying anything I will say this. My brother recently sold vehicles while he went back to college. I discovered when he did this that vehicle sales people are a very unstable group. They very seldom stay with one dealership for very long or even with one particular brand. Not defending them but because they move around so frequently they know little more than you do from reading the brochure.

PS: My own particular dealership where I bought my Jeep went though 5 Service Mangers in 2 years. The last one coming from a Chevrolet dealership. How could he be expected to know anything about Jeeps?

It could be the southeastern area of Michigan has a more frequent turn over of dealership employees because it is in the heart of the American automobile industry and lots of opportunities are available.
