Re: Jeep Grand Cherokee Fails Evasive Maneuver Test

The test Jeeps, 1st video where it fails and the one where it passes have different wheel and tire sizes. I would say testing with the 17 vs the 18 or 20's would have different results.

It could be just folks who confuse an SUV with its corporate brother product the Ferrari...

Hey, Lamborghini had a pretty rockin SUV.
Not sure if Ferrari ever made one but it would probably be pretty awesome.

Re: Jeep Grand Cherokee Fails Evasive Maneuver Test

Consumer Reports had the back slide out on their avoidance maneuver.
I had something similar happen on the highway with an rental 08 model, scared the crap out of me.

Aprox. 2.5 mins in.

Re: Jeep Grand Cherokee Fails Evasive Maneuver Test

Jeep fixed that in the 2011 V6 and Consumer Reports amended their review to recommend the WK2.

'08 is a completely different vehicle from the WK2, and based on an avoidance situation (Event Report - Carlisle 2012 - Page 2) in my '07 (very close to an '08) on the way home from Carlisle last year I have to say the '07 was simply awesome.

So Your Mileage May Vary ..

I don't put a great deal of faith in consumer reports for non-biased reviews. Especially with vehicles.

Umm...all reviews are biased. They're opinion. The only unbiased parts are the facts that they measure, assuming they're measured (and disclosed) properly. CR tends to do a pretty good job in that regard.

The most typical question is where the bias comes from. Most magazines are biased based on advertising dollars. CR is biased based on their own, internal worldview.

One of the reasons I posted the EuroNcap. It is a Standardized computer controlled test and is recognised by the EU as a benchmark for vehicle safety.

Controlling the variables is even harder than controlling the magazine sponsors.... Again, anyone can roll an SUV if you put some effort into it, so we need to try and stick with the verifiable test.
