Ok, SO I just got 275/55R20 in the COntinental LX20. So far so good. SOme putzing around on tirerack, I also found that the 255/70R18 is the closest fit.
The stock spare is 245/65R18. The Kumho Solus in that size is 9.8". I opened the lid, removed the backets and foam insert, and put a 3/4" piece of plywood on top of the tire (pretty much covering the whole tire). and I was able to close the lid. It was snug but the lid seemed to close just fine without a bulge.
So, based on tirerack, 90% of the tires in that size are 10.2". So, in theory, the extra 0.4" should be able to adapt. I doubt ill be able to fit the baskets but im ok with that. I can put stuff in and around the tire.
I got a local guy that has a Firestone LE2 in stock at that size and is willing to give me a good price on just 1.
I'll let you know how this works out....and even post pics.

Here are some photos from a member who test fit a 275/65R18 (32.07 x 10.83) in the well...
Now, having said that, I'd love to replace the current 245/65R18 (30.54 x 9.65) spare but I do not believe that the tire size I would get, a 245/70R18 (31.50 x 9.65), even exists -- I haven't seen anything on tirerack, tirebuyer, etc. A 255/70R18 (32.06 x 10.04) should
fit but I haven't had a chance to do a test fit. Unfortunately I can't go with a rim size smaller than 18" because I have the HD brakes.
