I've always wanted a lift jgc. I thought ql would be the top of the food chain for lifts until I learned it couldn't be controlled. Now that it's been out for a few years are there and aftermarket upgrades for ql that will allow me to run bigger wheels?

There are no lift kits in the traditional sense for QL. However there are at least two methods semi-permanent methods, that have been discussed here, to alter the vehicle height. One is via the STAR scan monitor when recalibrating the vehicle height. The other is to replace the little rods/links for the ride height sensor. Read here http://www.adjustableairride.com/

Both will much degrade your on-road vehicle handling characteristics - as does any lift kit. I am sure there will be people who disagree with this last statement and feel very strongly about their 2.5 or 3 inch lift kits but since we are all entitled to our own opinions, I believe the laws of physics are a bitch. Anything (i.e. lift kits, link arms etc.) that raises the center of mass from the ground ruins the on-road handling characteristics (and fuel economy) - which is where anyone drives most of the time anyways. Lowering the car tends to improve handling, up to a point where there is no suspension travel for the occasional pothole and the front bumper is a snow plow but that is not what you are asking for.

Thanks for the reply that was helpful. I was really hoping for a solution that replaced the entire suspension but retained bags. You would think a shock replacement and hockey puck body lift would be possible.

Replacing the QL would more or less amount to completely rebuilding the suspension...and that's not likely financially advantageous. There's a whole lot of physical integration that comes with the QL system.

As noted already, there are some adjustment devices available on the market for the links that allow you some limited re-set of the "normal" height (higher or lower), but they do not extend the limits in any meaningful way.

Crap. The OR2 height is fine but the ride is HORRIBLE and that makes the suspension useless even if tricked to maintain it at speed.

It appears that even after 5 years on market there just isnt enough demand for a company to replace the bags, struts, mounts and whatever to replace the factory gear in order to run these..

There have been a great many discussions about the ride at OR2...it's not meant to be used when it's not necessary to clear an obstacle and it's also speed limited to 25mph. Even at those low speeds, the suspension has very, very little travel. OR1 is speed limited to 45mph for similar reasons, although it has more headroom from the stops. Folks who want the look of a lifted JGC or need that lift for other reasons are going to be better served by one of the trim levels that do not include QL. It's the nature of the beast and out of the ~1000 JGC that are produced monthly, only a very small number of people want or need the extra lift full time. If the market for it was much higher, Jeep would offer it.

That's interesting, TinMan.KC. I do wonder if it was easier for them to do the RAM 1500 with it being body-on-frame which is a bit different than the JGC design, however.

I have removed my air suspension from my WK2 Overland. Not a difficult task but needs to be done in the right order. Results from the Eibach lift kit are ok, but there is some knock. I've ordered the Bwoody extended sway bar links and JBA upper arms to see if this resolves the problem. The stock 20"s have been removed and replaced with 18" Sahara rims. (32.1). The front is not quite high enough for 33's and I will order the rocky road spacers for the top struts. Be aware that removing quadra lift will cause the centre selector to flash. The Overlanf v8 is permanent AWD no issues for me though. The select terrain also does not function after the delete. This again is no biggie as that only adjusts the ABS and braking system.

SelecTerrain also affects the drive train including torque balance front/rear and shift points.

I drive my jeep here in the Oman desert and the empty quarter of Abu Dhabi. I need the V8 power to get up the huge sand dunes. After buying the jeep I found the limitation of the QL system. Firstly the QL "tops out" making a horrible noise and secondly I have to stop and lift the jeep to get of the crest of the dunes. I could live with the limitation but decided holding up the group was not for me.

So the fix is simple, change over to springs from air. All of the mountings are identical to a Laredo with springs. I will post all of the OEM suspension parts numbers required to make the change

With the OME, Rocky road, Eibach or Icon lift kits the front end is lifted by a minimum of 2". This will allow for 33" tyre to be fitted to the front. I have the Eibach kit and I currently have 32.1" stock Bridgestone 18 tires found on the Wrangler. Yes there is room to climb up to a 33" tire but I would prefer a little more clearance. I will splash out another $39 to get that little extra lift to increase the front end lift.

Under normal driving conditions with the 2" lift there is noticeable body roll, which I personally do not like. I am therefore going to get over this buy splashing out the $200 to stop this happening. Bwoody extended links I believe will solve this problem.

I will be stripping down the suspension soon to fit the new parts. I will post some pics of the lift I have done. For me removing the air system is a no brainer if you want to off road.

I have a 2014 limited with the QL. Im in need of a leveling kit which there seems to be none, does anyone know how hard it is to adjust the links, I maybe need atleast an inch in the front to get the tire and rim sizes i want to run on my wk2.

I have 05 20' SRT rims on it and I'm looking to get 275/50/20's to fit. I was looking at atturo trail blades, BFG KO2, etc.
I know the back will be fine but i'm trying to figure out if it will be worth adjusting the links or compromising for smaller tires

thanks

The links just send a resistance value the the computer... you could just disconnect the link in the normal ride position and rotate the arms... moving the arms should then alter the amount of air in the front struts.. when your happy with the height clamp the arms with a clamp.... or buy another set of switches from a breaker yard and glue them in a fixed position...

I fitted 17" copy AEV and found clearance on the calliper ...265/70/17 BFG KO2... problem with these is the road noise... sounds like the wheel bearings need replacing when driving... so I then put 285/50/20 with a 30mm wheel spacer... this gives me a better stance on the road...

The part that drives me nuts is that Porsche cayenne, VW atlas, and the VW Touareg have 2.5" and 3" lift options with the air suspension... Although they do say be careful running it in off-road mode because the two and a half inch or 3-in lift plus the air suspension puts the axle at an extreme angle.
