Re: Michelin Defender LTX M/S vs Nokian WRG3 SUV

I just ordered them for my wifes Mazda CX9. She will be the guinea pig. $740 shipped to my installer from Tread Depot. Free shipping and no sales tax. These tires seem very promising after doing my research especially in my neck of the woods. Ill keep everyone posted after mounting. Maybe Ill be next if they stock them for my 20".

Re: Michelin Defender LTX M/S vs Nokian WRG3 SUV

Mopar is running a buy 4 get 1 free on tires if anyone is looking to buy. plug your zip code into the link below and it will spit out the coupon. I had my dealer quote me a price on the Defender LTX thinking for one reason or another they were going to tell me I could not use the coupon. Well I was surprised because they did indeed deduct the price of one tire from the total price and even though the coupon says in stock only they had no issues ordering the Defenders. So the dealer ended up being $126 cheaper than the shipped price of tire rack.

Re: Michelin Defender LTX M/S vs Nokian WRG3 SUV

Thanks for everything guys. I called the dealer and was able to get the Michelin Defender LTX M/S in 265/50/20 for the buy 3 get 1 free special. $885 installed plus tax. In addition, I will be able to submit to Michelin for a the $70 rebate promotion.

So probably about $860 installed after taxes and rebates.

Hell of a value if I do say so myself.

Good job you wont do better than that on price anywhere for those tires. So how do you like them smooth at highway speeds no balance issues? How do they compare to what you had?

Re: Michelin Defender LTX M/S vs Nokian WRG3 SUV

I just got a set of the Defender LTX's installed as well - thanks to the buy 3 get one for 1$ mention here!

Ended up being about 850$ plus tax for the install from the dealer - not a bad deal considering I believe these qualify for road hazard protection through Mopar. I will report on how they handle the upcoming midwest winter

First day with the tires and I do notice minor humming when traveling at 70-75mph. I did have the tires aligned as well since my front end was pretty wonky.

Does this go away after the tires break in a bit?

Those tires are known for being quiet so you should not have much noise from them. give them a few hundred miles to break in and see how it goes. is it noise or vibration? you may be hearing the MDS when it kicks down to 4 cylinder operation sometimes you can notice a very mild rumbling with that.

It is kind of a vibration / hum. Might very well be the MDS - maybe I hear that more because the new tires are actually MORE QUIET than the OEM offers . Would I notice the MDS more at faster speeds?

I will keep everyone posted as the miles add up. Other than >70mph speeds so far so good - great handling, smooth and quiet ride.

I was getting ready to take them back to get re-balanced or take advantage of the Michelin swap to the Premier LTX's. I was also thinking it might've been due to them being higher mileage tires and therefore harder compound. Mine vibrated between 55 and 65 off and on. Glad to report after a couple hundred miles everything is fine. I have around 5,500 miles on them now with absolutely no signs of wear and am very happy with them. Just had them in some good rain today. Very confident. Can't wait to see how they handle the snow. I'll report back then.

that is what I was thinking maybe you just didn't notice it before because its quieter now. mds only comes on under lite throttle so often you notice that mild rumble when your upto speed highway cruising. when you start getting up in the 75 or 80 mph mds is not used as much because it takes heavier throttle to keep the jeep going that fast except down hills of course. MDS has the ability to operate at any speeds above 17 mph if conditions warrant. if its more of a shaking feeling you may have a tire out of balance.

so being a higher mileage tire and harder compound do you think they soak up the bumps pretty well? so they are a smooth and quiet ride but you don't feel every tiny little joint in the road right? the forterras were rotten tires but they were soft and did soak bumps up well, probably their one and only good point. just curious as these will be my next tire.
