Need a off-road tire for Overland?

I need a off-road tire for my Overland. I like the Nitto tires. Anyone running Nitto Terra 265 50 20 on a Overland? Any pictures? I think the 285 60 18 are to big. Any thoughts.

Re: Need a off-road tire for Overland?

IMHO, you should ditch the 20 inch rims and go with a set of 18's. When you drop to an 18 you give yourself a lot more sidewall. I did so and I'm running 265/60.18s Yokohama Geolander AT/S. You are correct in your assumption that 285/60/18 will not fit. The 265/60/18 are the exact same diameter as the 20 inch rims/tires you are currently running. Assuming you have a full size spare (which you should if you're off roading) running 18's with 265/60/18 inch tires will not require you to switch out the spare as it is the same diameter. As far as NITTO, I've never used them, but they and the BFG All Terrain KO are some popular choices. I went with the Geolander AT/S based on price and the recommendation of a very trustworthy tire guy. They are neither as aggressive or as expensive as the NITTO Terra Graplers or the BFG All Terrain KO's, but I realisticly only use them off road 10% of the time. I kind of turned this into a smorgashbord of info, hope it helps.

I'm running 275/65/18 Duratracs on my Overland which is about the biggest you can go without trimming. Here is a link to my thread about them.

275/65/18 Duratracs on Mopar Wheels!

Re: Need a off-road tire for Overland?

Don't know much about the Yokohama Geolander AT/S. Are they good mild off road tires? Mostly mud where I go in the summer. I see they have 275/60/18 that will fit too.

I like the Duratracs too, I think they would rub (275/65/18) , there 32.1" by 11" thats a big jump from stock 265/60/18 30.5" by 10.7"

Re: Need a off-road tire for Overland?

The Yokohama Geolander AT/S were $935 out the door with road (and off road) hazard protection. i.e. If for any reason I blow a tire on or off road, it will be replaced at no additional charge. I'm lucky to have gotten the protection for $20 per tire for 3 years.

Re: Need a off-road tire for Overland?

I'd get the Nitto Terra Grappler AT.

I would suggest the Goodyear SilentArmor's.

Re: Need a off-road tire for Overland?

Ditto on the Silent Armors. I have the 265/65/18 size, including spare, which at 31.5" is the largest size that will fit the spare compartment and allow the lid to fully close. These are also winter rated, with the mountain/snowflake symbol, so no need to switch tires back and forth seasonally. Only 1950 miles on them to date, but very pleased with their performance so far.

Re: Need a off-road tire for Overland?

Here are a couple of quick pics of the Nitto Terra 265 50 20's on my GC.
Great tires, quiet and they work great on the road and the only place off road I've taken them so far is some muddy trails in the forest here.

Re: Need a off-road tire for Overland?

Hey Tomc53, Do you think the Terra 275/55r20 (there 31.8" by 11.10" vs stock 30.50 by 1075) will work on the same wheels or would they rub up front? Could you post a picture of your front wheel to see how much clearance there is. That would help a lot, I do more off road. Thanks!
