Need everyones input on tires.

I really need new tires on my 15 Altitude. I've scoured the internet on reviews of different tires and all I get is mixed reviews. The stock GY Forteras are terrible in the snow here in New England. So my question is, Which tire do you guys recommend? I rarely do any off roading only the occasional dirt road. IDK if I need an all terrain or just a really good all season tire. Here are my requirements for a tire.
Quiet
Smooth
Stock size or very similar
Good traction in the snow. (up to 6")
Long tread life.

Any input would be appreciated.

Re: Need everyones input on tires.

If you don't plan to off road, I would recommend a good all season. Quieter, longer lasting, slightly less harsh, and probably a little better fuel mileage.

I don't live in a snow area and I do off road so my tire recommendations wouldn't mean much for your area. However, I have read several threads here and Nokians seem to turn up a lot with northern members.

Take a few and read down through this forum area...you'll find plenty of input on a wide variety of popular tires for the JGC...

thanks! I guess what I need then is an all season with emphasis on good snow traction.

Re: Need everyones input on tires.

For emphasis on snow but in an all season to leave on year round Nokian WRG3 SUV is a good choice.

I have Michilian Defender LTX, they are a great all around tire and did good on snow last week.

Re: Need everyones input on tires.

About 3000 miles ago I scrapped the horrible Forteras that still had 5/32 tread and replaced with Pirelli Scorpion Verde all season tires. Stock size but this tire is a V-rated tire where the Goodyear is just T rated. I can honestly say the Pirelli blows away the Fortera in every aspect.

It's nice to go around entrance ramps aggressively without the tires howling in complaint. They're simply great in the wet, where the Forteras were always into ABS on wet streets, these just grip. And they're decent in the snow, so much so that I have yet to put the snows on yet this winter. Might regret that if we get another big dump, but so far they've been fine in the upper midwest weather we've had so far. Might be the first winter in 20+ years I didn't mount snow tires on my daily driver SUV.

The only place they're just on par with the Goodyear is noise, the Fortera was a very quiet tire. These are too, but no better than the Fortera. Which is just fine with me.

Re: Need everyones input on tires.

I'm also running the Pirelli Scorpion Verde Plus and enjoy them. They are a good "all season" tire. They are not likely a great winter tire for someone who lives where there is "real winter" just because "all season" is always a compromise. But we don't get "real winter" here... Two to three storms, usually no more than 8-10" tops, although occasionally there's a nice nor'easter that takes a dump in some years, usually toward March. Go figure.

Re: Need everyones input on tires.

I do not have personal experience but am just in the process of getting a set of Yokahama g015 have them on Saturday which are an all weather as opposed to all season which means they have the mountain snowflake and are about 1 step from an ice radial. Seems some people run them all year. I digested 170+ pages of tire use reports from users on another forum and there where 2 choices that got rave reviews with no bad reviews from any users and they where Cooper weather master wsc which was my first choice but apparently sold out in all of North American and second was the Yokohama Geolander g015 but I will probably run a different tire spring to fall as I have 20" Goodyear Fortunas and picked up a set of 18" Wrangler rims to put the Yokohamas on.

Re: Need everyones input on tires.

Oh boy, so much written here. I am running 12 month all-weather tires below... more aggressive than all-seasons in winter. I'd buy them again. PM me if you have questions.
