I'm running winter tires and normally put them on when ice and form on the roads and take them off when the snow is over.

Sent on my Moto RAZR HD while I'm in class, in a meeting, in a waiting room, or in the bathroom

In general this is correct, though per KR comment above, when possible try to limit using them earlier or later during the winter season, as their softer compound wears extremely fast on pavement.

Oh snap...This is going to be tough because in MA gets cold but doesn't snow much, maybe a couple inches once a week if we are lucky.Sometimes not even that but sometimes 5 inches. So this is like a Russian Roulette.Could be 3-4 weeks between snow days.

I guess I just use the OEM tires for now.

Re: New 2011 Jeep Owner Snow Tire Question

^^ yes you can. imo.

I think the OEM tire is all season and thus the best all around option. A/T tires are probably better in snow, but not so sure about ice. Wet snow and hills you need studs or chains to get going. A/T's are louder, and don't grip dry pavement as well. I would argue they're no better on ice or dry cold than all seasons.

I was just testing out my JGC with GY fortera's on hills with 6 inches new snow and they're OK. Typically... from a stop up a steep hill no dice... in snow or low mode. But the more I thought about it my Tahoe with revo A/T's would have the same issue I think from a standstill. Ice is different and there is no really good tire for it unless it's studded. I've had Blizzacks and I can tell you on solid ice (and this is in a 3200# WRX) they will slide slide slide.. They're great winter tires tho, just not miracle workers.

Snow mode works pretty well, by the way. I prefer to shift manually to start in 1st, however. Sport mode becomes useless - which is fun too...

I personally think I next will go with an A/T tire (terra grappler?) or maybe a ltx m/s if they decide to make the 20inch size as an all year tire but that's for hwy, mountain (rare off road), snow, and ice. The OEM all seasons are actually a close second to me. I don't like the way they explode on the moose test, tho! Will look for a load E tire if available.

All the money / time in the world, I'd probably get a/t's for summer, blizzaks for winter. This still leaves dry warm handling out.
