New Michelin Tire

Looks like Michelin has finally come out with a New 265/50r20 LTX for our Grand Cherokees. Can't wait to give these a try this fall. Tire Rack says they will be available on 6-15.

Re: New Michelin Tire

Greetings,

I am not so sure about the winter conditions with this tire based on the tread pattern. But it looks like an total improvement over the Lat's. It should handle the winter conditions in VA. As for the rest of the seasons, it looks very promising. Something to look into.

Best for now.

Re: New Michelin Tire

I saw this also. I was actually very disappointed. It looks to be another blah highway tire for us with the 265-50-20.

Re: New Michelin Tire

It appears to be a similar all season highway cruiser in function to the latitude tour HP that they have in 265/50/20 but im not going to judge it based on what its tread pattern looks like. years back when I wanted an all season for sports sedan I had I bought the Michelin primacy which was a very boring looking nothing special looking touring tire. The primacy ended up being the best all season I had ever put on a car very good all around characteristics for an all season. im going to wait for some reviews to come back on this one and see what the opinions are. its definitely not slanted to off road, would have been nicer to get something like the MS/2 in the 265/50/20 which is a little more off road worthy but still an all season highway tire. Going to keep an eye on this one as I bet it will have better performance in the elements than the tour HP

I agree completely. Michelin has a magical way of making uninspired tread patterns perform. As you mentioned I was hoping for an MS/2 type tire. I saw the tire name before I had an opportunity to view the photo.

The LTX designation had me excited. Like many of us I have searched the internet from one end to the other trying to find the tire to actually take advantage of the jeeps ability. I live in Beckley, WV. We get quite a bit of snow. This was the first year with the Jeep in Winter. The jeep was stuck multiple times in my driveway. Meanwhile my wife's '15 Navigator with 22" wheels, which doesn't even have 4lo, left the same garage without spinning a tire.

I currently have Bridgestone Alenza's which are great highway but deplorable in snow. I am anxious to replace them before the snow fly's.

My Overland is my company vehicle. My personal vehicle is a Ford Raptor, so if the situation is difficult I just drive it, but I still would like to have a jeep that doesn't get stuck in 8" of snow.

Re: New Michelin Tire

I just looked at the Premier LTX on the Michelin site and saw no 265 50r20 listed. 275, yes, but no 265. I'm also holding out for an LTX like the MS2 we all like. Oh well...

I read somewhere the 265 is coming in the premier it's just not initial release. I also talked to a guy at Sears Auto. He said he was showing July availability for the 265 Premier LTX.

My problem is I need tires very soon. At this point I'm leaning towards the Cooper SRX. It doesn't do what I want but better than most options and relatively cheap, so I can always upgrade if something worth while debuts.

Tire Rack shows them as avaliable 6/15/15 in 265/50R20 so hopefully not long before we get some reports back on them.

New Michelin Tire

Would anyone consider going 275 instead of 265 if their primary driving was on pavement?

Or 255? Would they look weird is what I'm wandering?..

New Michelin Tire

Many like the 275. I continue to contemplate it. I have a few concerns. Most 275's are nearly 10lbs heavier. Not all but most are atleast 40+ lbs. the stock forteribles are 34. Not the end of the world but some are closer to 50 if you look at a true all terrain. Also some folks who have installed the 275 have had issues of rubbing on upper control arm due to extra width. I am all for running bigger tires, I have never been concerned with upsizing if it clears, but I'm much more leery of an upsize when the suspension mechanically moves at such an extreme amount mechanically. (Quadralift) Being the 275/55/20 is roughly an 1.5 inches taller I have a little concern.

Here is an update. I emailed cooper regarding options in the 265 that maybe coming soon. They actually emailed me back a couple hours later saying the cooper AT3 would be available in 265/55r20 in October. It's not as nice as the M/S2, but they do have great reviews and offer a real option to those who want a more middle of the road all terrain than currently available. Most of you know the Nitto Terra Grappler G2 is available in the 265, but I hear it is pretty terrible in rain and that's something that concerns me.

Re: New Michelin Tire

I'm seriously looking at the Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs. I had the Wranglers on my 86 4Runner and they performed very well on and off the road and in the snow. Got caught in a blizzard between Amarillo and Albuquerque with about 1 inch of ice under the snow and they handled it with no effort, even when I took it off the road to get to a side road that was open when the X-way came to a complete stop.
