New overland and tires

New here and 2 weeks into the ownership of an Overland.

Love it so far however i am not the biggest fan of the wheels. My question is i headed out to the backwoods of Arizona in hunt for some ghost towns. My last stop before the rough stuff i stopped in a local store and asked how the road was. He looked at my jeep and said "in that....youll make it but...you wont want to". Then eluded to the tires although i think he used that as a scape goat measure.

I drive 90% town and freeway but it has Jeep on the name plate and i feel the urge to get up and out on these side roads. Is it worth changing out to a more off road tire/wheel combo and how will that hit me on gas mileage.

Thanks

Re: New overland and tires

Do you have 20s or 18s (ORA package)? 20s are great on the highway, susceptible to sidewall rock damage. Many here purchase a set of 18 wheels to beat up with off road or AT tires for play and use the 20s on the street.

You will want skid plates too for more than logging type roads.

Re: New overland and tires

I'm in Sedona trying out our new GC Overland. It has the ORA2 package with the 18s. I'll air them down a bit tomorrow, I'm used to rolling on 37s offroad so its a bit rough at street pressure.

I have the 20s but no ora (dealer said it would be cheaper to buy the skids) and was trying to reach fort misery out of Crown King.

Looks like i need to pick up a set of offroad.

and the skid plates

I've been to Crown King. That's some road! It's sort of like four-wheeling on a county road!
