Coming out soon. Sounds interesting. Even fits 20" rims. We have the previous model on our Subaru and it is a terrific 12 month all-weather tire. Nokian WR G3 SUV
I have used many of a tire over the years from many manufactures. I have paid all kinds of money to get the best performance. I was told about this brand years ago when I had a problem in Vermont. The kind Vermonter told to look into NOKIAN as he showed me his tire, the WR. The problem I had then, they did make the size for my Pathfinder.
I am running right now with the Nokian Rotiva AT. My next set of tires will be some sort of Nokian. All Nokian's are pricey, but, they are inline with the upper priced known tires. This brand is well known in Europe, I strong following in Canada and making it's mark in the US. No wonder why companies like Bridgestone, Goodyear, Cooper, Michelin and others are incorporating variations of Nokian's technology.
If you do not need an AT tire, the WR G3 SUV is a serious all season tire and it's 3rd version, based upon the spec's, it even better.
I don't know either. It certainly will not be the 60 - 70,000 miles of the Michelin LTX M/S2 since the Nokian has snowflake/mountain symbol. We only have 15,000 miles of city driving on the WR G2's and they look good. My guess would be 40 - 50,000 miles. Anyone else?
I've got them on my Jeep. Put them on a week after buying it. I have ran Nokian tires since 2005 on all of my vehicles. I've used these in 8" of snow and some ice with great performance.
That's the idea. Nokian makes a great tire. Also nice to see that this new tire comes in 265/50-20 for the Overlands.
The ride is as soft as the OEM tires. Maybe a little louder on our Subaru, but not that you would really notice. The Jeep has more soundproofing than the Subaru. While they are not AT tires, I did see a WK2 Overland with ORA wearing WR G2's in the fall. I waited as long as I could for the owner to arrive, but needed to leave.
I can tell you for certain, with the Nokian Rotiva AT, I could not believe how quiet and soft it is for an AT tire. When I have other passengers in the JGC for the first time, they are amazed how comfortable the ride is on the open road.
The original WR was designed as a premium highway/touring tire for the SUV. Now in the 3rd generation, the WR G3, the tire compound is greatly improved. If you read the information on tire compound in the above link, you see why Nokian's technology in tire compounds and tread design makes it a quite tire. Whereas, my AT tire, has to take more abuse and that is part of the tire compound/tread makeup.
For all my research on various Nokian products, beside dealing with the snow/ice season, I also read a lot of great reports on dry conditions, braking and corning to name few. I also like the performance in heavy wind driven rain with no problems in hydroplaning. All of this, I have experienced with my Nokian tire.
The bottom line, this is first tire in a long time that I feel safe with in all categories.
Interesting tire. Read all the info on the tire at the Nokian website and my only question is what about offroad, on dirt roads, in mud, wet grass etc. Slush isnt a big concern for me with winter tires. I dont need an AT and Michelin LTX M/s2s are tops on my list right now to replace the Latitudes.

IstJeepGC reported on another thread here that he called Nokian and asked them this question regarding the previous model (WR G2).They told him that it would handle light off-roading. He therefore bought the Nokian Rotiiva AT as he wanted not only the snowflake/mountain symbol but true off-road capability.
My experience with WR G2's on our Subaru has been good. All tires are good on dirt roads. Wet grass and mud is extremely difficult with most any tire.
Hello. I wanted to weigh in with a recommendation here. I've owned 2 sets of the WR line. The G2 and currently now the G3. Both of these were on sedans and I would venture to say their wet and winter traction was astonishingly better than anything I've ever driven on. They would perform just as well as my 4Runner in the snow (save for ground clearance) and really inspire confidence.
I have the original Forteras on and will be strapping on some WRG3 SUVs this fall in the 20" size. I was giving the Terra Grapplers a hard look for good snow traction prior to the release of these G3s, and still am weighing both. But for my use, mainly on road and occasionally down a log road to get to a beach, and needing winter traction to travel in upstate NY to visit family, I believe the Nokians will be the winner. Excited to see this thread. I've been a Nokian advocate ever since I first owned a set about 5 years ago. Truly amazing.

Getting ready to pull the trigger... Nokian WR G3 SUV... $1,080 mounted ,balanced and tax... What do you think? Any better options? Ha Ha Ha I'm sure there is.
I have not shopped them yet locally, but saw them on the web for $298US for just the tire. Your price seems reasonable. I would pay that. Nokian makes a "top shelf" tire.
Someone on another forum reported that the WRG3s were 1" wider then the stock Fortera HL 265 50 20s and he was worried they would rub in the wheel well ?

If you experience winter weather, there's no comparison. I would think the Paradas would be not much better in the winter than the junk Jeep puts on at the factory.
I had a scare last winter and swore I'd get rid of these Fortera POS tires. With snow possible up here at any time now, I pulled the trigger.
Sticking with the OEM size, I was going with either these or the Terra Grapplers (more aggro look), but sensibility won out. I had the TGs on a Dakota. They wore fast and were not that great in the winter (but better then the Forteras).
If I were to get the WRG3 SUV I would be using it year around. I'm hoping it's a smooth and quiet tire. I know it doesn't have the durability as others but I only put on about 7500 miles per year so it should last a while.
WR G2's on our Subaru are on year around. (That was the plan.) They are smooth, but not as quiet as stock tires, though Subaru does not have as much sound proofing as WK2, for sure. The tread pattern on the WR G3 SUV's looks like it would be quieter though.
I contacted Nokian a few months ago and asked them about the noise level of the WRG3 SUV they stated that it was not the quietest of their tires but was by no means loud and referred me to consumer reports which gave the WRG3 SUV a medium rating for noise. if I were in a snowy climate that would be my first pick for a tire because I am not one to change out different tires for different seasons of the year. The fact that this tire is marketed as good in snow but can be left on all year round is a big plus. Got to buy tires for how you use them. since my climate gets not much snow and I wanted a super smooth and super quiet highway cruiser I got the Michelin Latitude Tour HP which is an excellent tire for that purpose. For an off road tire with acceptable on road manners would have gone with terra grappler and for a very snowy climate and a tire you leave on year round it would have been the WRG3 SUV. just buyem how you use em
I actually had a set of directional Fortera Triple Treads on my previous Jeep. They were fantastic on snow and ice but the wear characteristics weren't that great. As they wore down some I started getting that wow-wow-wow howling at almost any speed.
I finally got tired of listening to that and replaced them with Cooper Discoverer AT3's.
Interesting what Consumer Reports said about the Nokian WRG3 SUV about noise. With the Nokian Rotiva AT tire that now has over 20k on mine, they seam quieter than most other AT tires when I have the windows open. Granted, the GC does a great job in reducing road noise.
As member Jake07WK has reported, the WRG3 is differently quieter and should be quieter than an AT tire. A lot of noise reduction for both an directional tire and an AT tire comes from Nokian's technology.
As member silvermax04 has pointed out, their is a difference between a touring tire and a tire that deals with both touring and winter conditions. Tire selection is all about where you are driving and what other regions you want to go to with their respective seasons.
FYI: When you buy a tire for winter conditions, do not wait until it happens. Tires need over a hundred miles to remove the top coating to get to the traction design point.
It so happens that we've had a wild weather week here in Alberta where on Sunday it was sunny and 25°C (77°F) then it went to 0°C (32°F) with snow twenty-four hours later. The streets are water logged and slushy and the Jeep is more sure footed then she ever was with the Forterribles. Large puddles are simply plowed through and the fear of hydroplaning has been greatly reduced. We're not in the deep freeze yet, but if their performance thus far is any indication, I'll feel much safer rolling on these this coming winter.
As far as noise, the increase over stock is negligible.
