Hi fellow Jeepers,

I need to purchase a new set of tires for my GC Summit, replacing the Fortera HLs; has 20inch rims.
Main usage for on road: about 75%; off road/dirt: 15%, Ice/snow: 10% or less.
Driving style is spirited. I do like the Fortera HL going from a full stop to driving off, like its performance. No issues so far with freeway, wet or dry,
and dirt roads. No experience with the Forteras on light snow. However, the thread life is coming to an end at 19,500 miles!
Any suggestions as to tires in the 265/50/20 size?

Thank you in advance for any suggestions.

Wow...I still had 6/32" on my Forteras at 40K miles when I swapped them out for the Nitto NT421Q tires I have now.

There are a gazzillion tire choice threads here in this section with quite a few great suggestions... ;)

Thanks for the suggested tires - Nitto 421Q and the Nokian WR G3 SUV- thinking about these in stock 20" size. Have been reading as many tire threads as possible, liking the Nitto Terra Grappler G2 as well. Additionally, like the idea of going to 275/55/20 or 285/50/20 though unsure if these will rub on the '14 GC with QL?
Will the Nitto 421Q or Nokian WR G3 SUV be okay with mild off road terrain?
Thanks!

The NT421Q isn't an AT....it's a highway tire, but should be fine for mild stuff. Heck, I did a beach ride with the Foreteras with no issues.

Greetings,

My favorite brand is Nokian. I have had many different brands over the years and I find this to be the best.

For an all season or all weather, IMHO, the 2 tires right now I would go for is the Nokian WRG3 SUV or Nitto NT421Q.

If you are considering AT tires, they have 2 classifications in application. The serious aggressive that you need for off-roading and the on/off road AT for that is aggressive and has a comfortable ride on the highway.

Right now for the top 3 in the serious stuff, IMHO, you got the new BFG T/A KO2, the new Nitto Eco Grappler and the GY Duratrac. With the other classification look into the Nokian Rotiva AT , Cooper AT/W and even the Bridgestone Revo 2.

With that being said, it always pays to get a better tire.

Best for now.:)

Hi 1stJeepGC,
Unfortunately, the tire size my Summit has is rather limiting {285/50r/20)
for all terrain type tires. I like the Nokian Rotiva AT (they don't come in the tire size I need) and thinking about the Nitto Grappler G2 though some posts have commented that these tires can tear easier than others.
Still contemplating Nitto NT421Q and Nokian WRG3 SUV (though I don't go out in the snow much).
Thanks for the input!

Greetings,

Anytime.

One of the reasons a like this 2 tires for the highway is the tread pattern. The tread pattern is extremely important in preventing hydroplaning. Dealing with heavy rains on a highway is equally important as dealing with winter conditions. Of course you know which tire I always recommend first.

Best for now.:)

That's a typo...it's correct in the OP. 265/50/20 But it's still "limiting" in tire choices, although it seems like there are more that appear over time as this size becomes more common.
