I pulled the trigger today and placed an order with Discount Tire for Nitto Terra Grappler 275/55/20 and trading in the factory Goodyear Fortera HL with 700+ miles on it. It should be here the end of next week.
UPDATE: Pictures added
I really like the Nitto's. Gives it a mean look and rides really well. Also looks like it has an addition inch or more on height. A little info on the Speedometer. I ran a GPS app before the new tires and after with really no difference. So adjustments isn't needed.
Are these considered the best performing all season tires for the WK2? I'm thinking of ordering these - but the 265 to avoid speedometer / rubbing issues.
Yea it is my first tire. Looking for something with good handling ability but is also do well in all seasons (Midwest winters). Don't really take it off road much so that's a lesser concern.
Would these be a top choice for these needs? Any others I should also consider?
I also have heaps of praise for these tires, I have a small lift now but on Std suspension I was running 275/55/20 with no running issues, speedo wise at 60-59,80-80,100-101,110-112 so as u can see makes the speedo almost spot on until u get above 100k an hour. Most cars are generally under valued in the speedo.
I went up a size to give me more sidewall, we have of the best beaches in the world here in QLD so we want to drop the tyre pressures and get out there and enjoy them.
Anyone running these actually off-road with them? I took the stock 20s with Fronteras out to the desert and I need new tires now. Just wondering if these are good for moderate trailing running or if I really need to get a second set of wheels that are 18s.
I run mine off-road they are great for trail work, beach etc. hard core mud they aren't going to go that well. Expect a little bit more noise from the AT but the not that much. In saying that I think the G2 will be even quieter than the original.
New to the forum & just installed a set of 275/55/20...discount tire was skeptical & said on a full hard turn the "slightly" touch the sway bar. They fit & look great & I don't feel or hear any rubbing at all!
Your truck looks great with the new tires! I just had the same put on my 2012 Lorado, with a used set of 20" rims... I used the iphone WAZE app to measure the MPH difference - it appears that the odometer reading in my Jeep is 2-MPH slower. Now with the cold weather I am wondering what the optimal tire pressure should be set at - what did you set your pressure to?
I've been driving with these Nitto Trera Grappler's and now the G2's for four years now and I have to say they are a great all around tire off road and on but ( with this size on our Jeeps ) they are the worst in the snow and Ice , I do a fair amount of off roading with my WK2 and they are excellent in everything but snow ! Due to the width and the lightness of our Jeeps , I would change these for anything else but I just wanted to give you guys my experience with these , I will be looking into so tire chains just for the rear (for off road ) purpose only m:thumbsup:
Thanks for sharing your experience! I live in NYC so most of my driving is on the city streets (occasionally suburban streets). The most common snow conditions we experience here is a dusting (usually ices up), 3-6 inches and sometimes 12-18 inches. How do you feel the Tires would handle these conditions?
Again I do love these tires but don't let the aggressive tread pattern fool you , on these and or any other tire in this size for our WK2 , its the width that kills the traction in SNOW , I do like these for all other conditions and I dont think any other tire in its class would out preform them other that a snow tire , So to answer your question I would still use them as I do but dont assume they are a supper all terrain tire :thumbsup:
^^^ - Even GY Forteras are pretty wide, and they manage to get around in snow if driving carefully. Can't imagine the Nitto G2's being worse than that.
Well I just bought myself a set of 265/65-R18. according to the online calculators such as this one https://tiresize.com/comparison/
265/65-R18 tires are 10.4 inches in width whereas
275/55-R20 tires are 10.8 inches in width.
However, the tire width and tread width are two different things though they are related. I set out to buy a tire that had a narrower contact patch (i.e. tread width) than OEM to help with cutting thru the snow and also off-road and it looks like the Terra Grappler G2 are the correct tire choice. The tread width on the factory Michelin Latitude 265/60-R18 is 8.5 inches according to TireRack. According to my measuring tape, in the dark, in the back of the Jeep (I have not mounted them yet) the tread width of the NTG G2 is 8.0 inches. Narrower and taller tires. Exactly what I was looking for.
I recently installed Nitto Terra Grappler G2s 275/55/r20 my 2014 limited. No problems. No rubbing. All stock everything. Stance looks great and tire feels real good.
