Nokian Rotiiva AT's (275/55R20) on 2012 GC Altitude?

It's about time to replace the stock Goodyear Fortera's (265/50R20) on my 2012 Grand Cherokee Altitude (non-QL), and I've got my eye on the Nokian Rotiiva AT's. Has anyone purchased these tires in the 275/55R20 size and mounted them successfully to the stock 20" rims without any rubbing or other issues?

I've read about other owners moving up to the 275/55R20 size with other brands without any rubbing, but I've also read a few that did have rubbing issues - this leads me to believe it's a case-by-case basis depending on the brand/model. That being said, does anyone have experience with the Nokian Rotiiva AT's in this size on their WK2? I would sleep a bit better at night if I had some more assurance that the tires will fit before I shell out the cash for them.. It's a little unnerving to see how close 275s come to the stud/ball joint...

And forgive my ignorance, but can someone briefly explain or confirm whether or not I will have issues moving from 265 to 275 on the stock 20" rims? I am not familiar with the process for mounting tires to the rim, but I would think there are implications when increasing the width of the tire. Can both 265 and 275 tires be fitted to the stock 20" rims?

Input is much appreciated!

I run 275/55/20 Nitto's pre and post lift no issues.

Good news... sort of.

Turns out Nokian has a distributorship in the St. Louis area and I can get the Rotiiva's mounted and balanced within a day for $820 out the door (after a $40 rebate). Likewise, since I am getting the tires locally, I'll be able to have them mounted to check for rubbing before I commit to purchasing them.

However, I have not jumped the gun yet as it just came to my attention that up-sizing to the 275/55R20 tires may void my warranty. I did a quick Google search and noted a few points from multiple threads:
  • If the dealer denies a claim, the dealer must prove that the aftermarket modification caused the failure. Although this likely means that you wont have any issues with the dealer denying a claim on the basis that your up-sized tires caused your radio to short-out, I don't think anyone wants to get involved in litigation to prove whether or not larger tires are to blame for failures in anything drive-train related.
  • It really depends on the dealer and whether or not they will turn a blind-eye to modifications you have made
  • In two instances, Jeep owners had oversize tire notes added to their VINs by dealers and were later denied warranty service for transfer case issues.

Now I am in a dilemma...

Greetings,

$820.00 is super great price.

Maybe when comes time to replace mine, a road trip is in order. Still did not see enough of St. Louis last summer when I was their. Plus, I would do another tour at the Bud plant.

As for your dilemma, you are protected under the Moss-Ferguson Act.

It is my understanding it very hard to prove a transfer case issue. The key is maintain the schedule service for it. I would find out from your service dealer their opinion.

Best for now.

I run 275/55/R20 cooper ATPs on stock wheels with 1 1/4" bora spacers. There's a minor rub on the fender flare. It's only happened a hand full of times and always in the same intersection. I have a RRO leveling kit waiting in the garage that should fix the problem.

I was very pleasantly surprised when I heard $820 mounted. The first tire shop I called had never heard of the Rotiiva's (not sure they had even heard of Nokian), would have had to special order them, and would have charged me $1,100 when it was all said and done.

I called a local dealer and asked the service rep if up-sizing from the stock 265/50R20 tires to 275/55R20's would have any impact to my warranty. He quickly and confidently respond "No, you can do that." I again clarified stating "So I can move up to a larger-than-stock tire and it won't affect my warranty coverage?" and I received the same response - he just advised to check for rubbing and noted that I might see a change in MPG.

I hope this one rep's attitude reflects that of the entire service department at this dealership. I may call back later this afternoon to see if I can get a different rep and ask him the same questions.

Re: Nokian Rotiiva AT's (275/55R20) on 2012 GC Altitude?

You'll get a different response from different reps in different circumstances.
For example if you have suspension issues the adviser may claim the tire size is not to manufacturer spec or the tire itself may not be approved as a replacement tire. I had this issue with Audi who told me my Hankooks were not approved even though they were the stock size. Another dealer/adviser was a different story. Just get what you want and worry about fighting that battle if it comes up in the future because the answers you get now won't apply later.

MOFSTEEL....you seem to have all the answers, "Here we go again" lol... kjkohne has a set of wheels and tires for sale on here. Will they fit my 2012 Overland with the Brembos with no rub . I want them for a winter set up... I do have a one season used set of Nokian WRG3 SUV 265x50x20 but either I have to buy wheels to fit with the brembos or buy these and sell my OEM set....

Yes ..they fit over the Brembos and you'll have no issues with rubbing.
Those are OEM SRT8 wheels so they're made to fit over the Brembos and the tire size is what I and many other members run for winter tires. 285/50R20
