Nokian Snow tires

Just ordered a set of R2's in 265 50 20.

Also have a set of new wheels on order along with the TPMS sensors/stems/lugs.

So once they all come in, will get them mounted and balanced and have a set of winter tires/wheels.

Anyone used Nokian winter tires, searching around, no one seems to make Snow tires in the 265/50/20 size. Searched Michelin x ice, Blizzaks.

Re: Nokian Snow tires

I used the R2's on my Jeep last year, but I have 18" wheels. They work pretty well, but hard for me to compare to anything else, as it's the first year I've had the Jeep. Prior to the Jeep I always had much lighter vehicles. Blizzaks have always been good, and I really liked General Arctic Altimax tires as well...don't like X-ice in general.

Anyway, hard to compare all those tires when they were on very different vehicles. I can say I had no issues getting up our steep hill with them on, and in fact towed our Prius up the hill once too when it got stuck halfway up. Jeep with R2's had NO issue at all getting up the hill even pulling the Prius.

They are relatively quiet on the highway, and I noticed very little MPG hit switching to them. Even took on them on a couple of long trips this winter. Worked well on the highway even.

Bottom line: They are an EXCELLENT all around winter tire. Not as good as the studded Nokians, but damn good for a non-studded tire.

Re: Nokian Snow tires

A thread about snow tires in May is really depressing.

How about a thread on actual winter storm warnings with up to a couple feet of snow forecast, and already beginning, in May? Or ski resorts with 2 feet of new snow the past week? Or being glad that Michelin MS/2 is not too shabby on wet snow/slush on Peak to Peak just last weekend?

Never tried the Nokian non-studded. Their studded's hold the world ice speed record and if you ever buy them, you'll see why. Wish they were a bit more widely available though.

Re: Nokian Snow tires

Lots of forum members running Nokian severe snow/ice rated tires on their Grand Cherokees.
Most members rave about them, myself included.

Do a search for the threads.

Re: Nokian Snow tires

Had Hakkas on past Volvo XC-70 which sold me on Nokians. Interestingly they were recommended by acquaintance who managed a Firstone store.
