Non-Stock size tires

There are bits and pieces throughout threads but I was wondering if anyone has had real world issues with going to a non stock size in the way of performance, speedometer (other than off by x%), odometer, or ABS? This is assuming the tire fits and no rub issues. Knowing the computer cannot be reprogrammed - does it harm anything in the car thinking it has a smaller diameter tires than reality? Do you have issues with the odometer reading incorrectly (for warranty, signed odometer statement, etc.).

I know I am overly thinking it, but indulge me please.

This is mainly in context of going 275/55r20 over stock 265/50r20.

Have Cooper discoverer S/T Maxx 275/70-18. No issues up to now except less Km on odometer. Difference is about 80 km/1000 km.

Re: Non-Stock size tires

When I went to 275/65/18 it corrected the speedometer. Now when I cruise on the highway, the 430n, evic and my phone app all read the same

Re: Non-Stock size tires

Anyone have issues with their Chrysler warranty from upsizing tires.

I know there are a lot of people on the forums went to 275-55-20's in all terrain style tires. That's roughly a 1.5" increase in diameter.

There are also a couple of people who have gone from stock 20's to 305-40-22's which is roughly 1.2" increase in diameter.

Have any of you had warranty work done with those upsized tires on your Grand Cherokees & how did you fair with Chrysler? Any issues or smooth sailing?

Re: Non-Stock size tires

I'm on my 3rd set of aftermarket rims and tires on my 2014 grand Cherokee and I can offer a little advice

Buy oem tpms sensors if you change rims/tires
These aftermarket sensors are a pita

I've had 275/50/20's
285/45/22"s
And now 295/50/20"s

The 285/45/22"s are a little over 32" tall and I did experience some rubbing on the very front of the inner wheel well

I'd stay away from a tire over 32" tall unless you can live with a little rubbing here and there

Did you have any problems with warranty work at the dealer ajag with the increased diameter tires?

I'm considering a 305-40-22 tire which has a 31.6 inch diameter....1.2 inches larger than the stock diameter.

I just don't want the dealer screwing me over on warranty work because of the increased diameter. I bought an extended warranty as well....so that would be bad if it were voided.

Re: Non-Stock size tires

No...Never had any Issues with the dealer...I Literally had my GC in for service 10 times in the first 6 months I owned it...and I had the 22"s on there the whole time...they never said a word.

I was pretty pissed about the problems and complained several times to the jeep Service center ...I even threatened to look into Lemon Law proceedings at one point but eventually just decided to live with the issues...

I still get errors on my Screen regarding an error with the "Car phone/911" button having connectivity issues...

I've had a boatload of issues with mine...I checked this morning and mine was built in 6/13 so hopefully they worked out some of the issues on the new ones.

I've had most of the common issues you see here on the forum....

I'm on my 3rd radio cluster...2nd backup camera (still SUCKS) , headliner has been out twice because of a leak ...transmission issues...Lots of errors on the screen ...the list is long

With that being said...i think they just overlooked the tires and rims

Wow, you had really bad luck with your GC. Knock on wood, I've only had to get it in once because the steering wheel looked off centre leaning towards the one o'clock.

Re: Non-Stock size tires

I was going to ask a similar question - in the UK any tyre dealer or garage are all very nervous about different sized tyres on the OEM 20" wheels. I run 255/50/20 winter tyres. I was thinking about 275/45/20 all terrains.

My question - the UK tyre suppliers all say no. Fiat say, no. I asked a Jeep mechanic (of 15years) and he said, should be fine.

Assuming they are all the same tread and size all round, it shouldnt cause any diff or transmission issues?! I don't care about the speedo - !

Cheers

Re: Non-Stock size tires

Im all about larger tires but want to keep them in the wheel wells. Once the tire comes out its much more likely to and will chip up the paint on lower 1/4s and fenders
