Yeah, install 32" tires and run normal ride height lol. It's sad, but that's the answer I came up with.

Anyone aware of any after market shocks for QL2 being developed? I also remember reading somewhere that the Overlander Concept which is on air suspension had some modifications to stop the topping out noise.

Re: Off-Road 2 mode CLUNK 2015 JGC Summit 3.0TD

For what it's worth, I have a 2014 Overland and get clunks in normal going fast over speed bumps, get clunks in OR1 if I am going moderately fast over hazards, and get clunks going over virtually everything in OR2. I only use OR2 very sparingly to clear something, otherwise I off-road in normal or OR1 as much as possible.

I brought it to the dealer knowing the clunking was fairly normal but still wanted to see if there was anything they could do and after inspecting the suspension, they said this is to be expected for all the reasons every has already cited.

Hope this helps.

Well, it helps me feel bad about my choice of a new 4x4.

Thanks for the input.

Re: Off-Road 2 mode CLUNK 2015 JGC Summit 3.0TD

I get clunk in OR1 very easy and OR2 on anything resembling a bump. I even get it normal ride height with certain paved roads with dips. Pretty sad of the engineers to think this was acceptable. I do wonder if my diesel extra 400 lbs has any suspension tuning different from V6 or not. More weight requires more air spring and would need rebound adjusted accordingly. I mentioned the poor engineering in the online customer surveys.

Re: Off-Road 2 mode CLUNK 2015 JGC Summit 3.0TD

Yah, it's frustrating having sophisticated air suspension on a Jeep that sounds like it's about to break every time you hit a little bump.

As for the weight concern, I have the hemi, but my clunk noises nearly always come from the lighter rear end.

I read about a service bulletin for the SRT models that addresses this same issue, but my dealer said there was no fix for my vehicle. Sure seems like it could be fixed by increasing the stiffness of the suspension which I believe was the fix on the SRT. But what do I know...

FWIW my experience with aftermarket for OEM air shocks was with Arnott and they were way better than OEM quality. They seem to make them for almost everything with air susp. except Jeeps. There are pretty much the go to for Land Rover owners, and seem to fix any shortcomings that the original ones had. I would maybe start with them to see if anything is in development.

This was also an issue with Range Rover (according to Four Wheeler or 4x4 2014 4x4 of the year test).
2014 4x4 Of The Year - 4-Wheel & Off-Road Magazine
They said that Rover had fixed the problem and they suspect that Jeep would figure it out. They haven't yet.
I searched for the Rover fix and found kits that replace the air suspension with coils.
Range Rover Coil Spring Conversion Kit # 9520LB | Range Rover Suspension Parts
I'm sure it is only a matter of time before it will be available for the Jeep.

I noticed the advertised ground clearance for 2015 Grand Cherokee with Quadralift is only 10.8" vs 11.3" for 2014. I wonder if that has something to do with the suspension essentially having no travel when it's fully extended in the 2014 models. Maybe decreasing max height .5" helps?

Does anybody with a 2015 have issues with clunking while in OR1 or OR2 setting?

-Edit, just realized OP said this was for 2015 model. Apparently the .5" of travel doesn't make a difference.

2015 Overland 3.6L:
OR1 not that we've noticed yet.
OR2 definitely does clunk.

This was only going up the access road to the house. When in OR2 the suspension was very stiff like air shocks that are pressurized pretty high.

Someday, I'll get to drive it and really play. Right now it is "new" and her baby so I get to sit in the passenger seat and push buttons.

Re: Off-Road 2 mode CLUNK 2015 JGC Summit 3.0TD

Really...there's almost no play left at OR-2 height, so you are going to hit the suspension limits easily and that's your "clunk". Nature of the beast...
