Off-Road 2 mode CLUNK 2015 JGC Summit 3.0TD

Before I run back to the dealer, perhaps this is normal.
I have a brand new Summit with Quadralift. Of course, I like to test everything out. I set suspension to Off-Road 2. In this mode and whilst travelling slowly in a carpark with speed humps I notice a loud clunk in front and rear suspension as it comes off the humps. It is quite loud and I can feel it.

Anyone else out there tried this mode and in a similar condition. I would like to know if they all do it.

Thanks for the input.

Re: Off-Road 2 mode CLUNK 2015 JGC Summit 3.0TD

Yep, that's normal. It's the air suspension popping to full extension as the shocks rebound. It's loud and annoying, but not a problem other than that.

Phew. Glad to hear that Benn0. I was hoping that is the case. It certainly is loud. Even a small pothole at 10k sounds like suspension on the pump stops.

Thanks Benn0

Re: Off-Road 2 mode CLUNK 2015 JGC Summit 3.0TD

There is very, very limited suspension travel when raised up to ORII level so the 'clunk' is normal...it's just the suspension reaching its limit. And now you know why very slow speeds are required for this level...

OR 1 is the same. Just as clunky. Is that normal too. I wouldn't want to drive down a rough dirt road. Hang on, isn't that what it's for?

I don't get a lot of clunking in OR1 unless I'm really bouncing it around.

Ok. Jacko. Thanks. Even small bumps make a horrible bang that shakes the whole car.. Making off-road driving very uncomfortable.. I'll take on some real dirt to see what it does.. Else it's going back. Everyone laughed at me for selling a 08 200 Sahara. I don't want to hear, "we told you so"

Re: Off-Road 2 mode CLUNK 2015 JGC Summit 3.0TD

Shouldn't be having those issues in OR1. I do a lot of off-roading in my 2013 in OR1 and don't have any clunking at decent speeds. I do have issues at OR2 and only use it when crawling over obstacles. I do have larger than stock tires though at 32"

Re: Off-Road 2 mode CLUNK 2015 JGC Summit 3.0TD

I had some significant clunks in OR1 driving on a dirt/gravel road at about 20 mph with double fist sized rocks here and there. I put it in normal height and all was fine. I really just think if there's any substantial downward travel you gotta slow down.

Re: Off-Road 2 mode CLUNK 2015 JGC Summit 3.0TD

Hi, new here, first post. I'm pretty amazed by this clunky suspension. I mentioned it to my sales person (I've only had it five days) and they said they had not heard of this issue. They suggested I bring it down so I did. The service advisor went for a ride with me- he was pretty amazed by the clunking and we only went over speed bumps slowly. He then had their suspension guy go for a ride. Suspension guy said "oh yeah, that's the air shocks, they do that."
I said "really a $45,000. Luxury Trail rated Jeep should be making noises like that?" He wasn't exactly personable and just got out of the car.
I have an 80 land cruiser BJ41 that doesn't make noises like that and a 94 Ram 2500 that doesn't clunk but my brand new Grand Cherokee sounds like they forgot to put the shocks in it, nice!
Sure got a lot of fancy stuff though.

Re: Off-Road 2 mode CLUNK 2015 JGC Summit 3.0TD

I did a little off road driving to test the suspension. I found some dried mud ruts made by a grader. Only slow driving possible. The ORII setting was very unsettling. I don't know how much of that the car could handle. OR1 was much better but still clunked. On the rough stuff. I cannot understand how any designer could ever think this is OK.
What were they thinking? Is there anything we could do to fix this?

I sometimes use OR1 around town as I like the higher driving position. Generally, I don't hear anything from the airbags. Ride is a little rougher but I'm ok it's that.
