Re: Off-Road Adventure II Package Tires

Went to the dealer today, talked to the salesman, and service director, I was informed that that is the tire that comes on the GC from Jeep. I thanked them and told them that I would be filing a complaint, not about them but about the tires that were stocked on the vehicle. They seemed to understand my complaint. I then called the tel. # and filed a complaint along with getting a case #. Thanks for the advice. I would suggest everyone that purchased the upgraded ORAP 1 and 2 file a complaint with Chrysler/Jeep, as the Michelin Latitude Tour tires are not an on/off (all terrain) tire, at least that's my opinion from the information I have looked at.

Thanks for your help.

Yes, the tire will physically fit on the wheel. the JK Sahara wheel is a 7.5" wide wheel compared to the 8" stock WK2 wheels.
The 265/65/18 tire will fit the WK2 stock. It is a larger diameter tire so it will put your speedo and odo off a bit without reprogramming, but it will fit. You can fit up to a 32" tire.

My only concern is fitting the Sahara wheel on the HD brakes. I have the V6 with regular brakes and these wheels barely fit. Since the offset for these wheels is smaller than the stock WK2 wheels (46mm versus 54mm) the back side of the spoke faces barely clear the front of the caliper. If the HD brakes are any wider there may be an issue. I'm not sure what the actual dimensional differences are between the HD and regular caliper are (if any), but I want to make sure you are aware of the small clearance.

Re: Off-Road Adventure II Package Tires

I'm curious to what tires Jeep used for the Rubicon trail. http://www.autoblog.com/2010/02/02/2...-become-trail/

Re: Off-Road Adventure II Package Tires

This is my experience with the Michelin Latitude Tires that come on the GC with the Off Road Adventure Package II. You may get a different response , but this is what I went through.
Ok so after going to the dealer I was informed that I should contact Chrysler/Jeep about my tires. So I called and filed a complaint. A case manager called back the next day and the following conversation and
e-mails took place.
Manager: The Michelin Latitude tire is described as an on-off road tire on Michelins web site.
Me: According to the web page I looked at no where in the description was on-off road capability mentioned. The LTX A/T 2 is described as on- off and that is what I expected with the ORAP II.
Manager: Well Jeep was told by Michelin that these were on-off road tires and that you should contact Michelin. (Later I wrote Michelin an e-mail and got a repsonse refered to later)
Me: So if I go to a restuarant and order a Maine Lobster dinner and get served a crab dinner I should have to talk to the fisherman?
Me: The Jeep Wranglers on the lot had a more aggresive All terrain tire on them and why doesn't the GC with the off road package get similar tires?
Manager: Well if you wanted a true off road vehicle you should have bought the Wrangler as the GC is an SUV and not made for off road use. Me: Even though purchased the Off Road Adventure Package II.
At this time I had to end the call due to work.
I e-mailed Michelin and got their response that "the Latitude is not a true on or off road tire such as the LTX A/T2. It can be used for gravel or light off road use such as dirt roads"
An e-mail followed by the case manager stating that all Wranglers except the Rubicon came stock with the same on-off road tire that is on the GC. (NOT)
Next phone call;
Me: I received the e-mail from you and looked up the Wrangler tires and on the Sahara standard tires are the Bridgestone Dueler A/T meaning All Terrain and this is more of the tire I expected with the ORAP II. I also e-mailed Michelin and got this response, "the Latitude is not a true on or off road tire. It can be used for gravel or light off road use such as dirt roads"
Manager: Well the GC is not an off road vehicle.
Me: Have you seen the commercials with the GC climbing over hills, going over rocks and fording water?
Manager: Well even I know not to take my Liberty were a Wrangler could go?
Me: So now I don't have enough common sense to know were and how I should be driving my GC?
Manager: Well you should go to the dealer because their the one that sold you the GC.
Me: OK so you are still diverting to others as you have all the time. We can keep debating this but I can not make my point good enough for you, that's what lawyers are for.
Manager: CLICK!! SHE HUNG UP!!
So that is my experience with this. For whatever it is worth and all the ribbing I may take for how I could have handled it better.

Re: Off-Road Adventure II Package Tires

Interesting photo that first Rubicon one. But notice that the trees in the background are not growing vertically like they should? Rotate the photo to make the trees vertical and then you can see the real angle. Its still steep but not that much.

There were other photos in that same set from last year that showed the true slope of that rockface.

Re: Off-Road Adventure II Package Tires

My call was similiar to 03Rush in thaat in the end she hung up. I was calm and respectful in every part of the call. I did not even get to talk to my case manager, she was an assistant.

I will be calling again to open another case or just calling the support number for them to come and help me get my truck out of the sand or for fixing a flat. They did after all give that service to me when I purchased the jeep with those tires.

What a nimrod! What the hell does she think the Trail-Rated badge on the JGCs (with ORA II) means?

It's pretty hard to fathom what Jeep could be thinking on this one.

Jeep's position will be that these tires tackled the Rubicon trail. Threats of a lawsuit, or anything like that won't go anywhere since these tires have already proven more than sufficient to handle more than most users will attempt. I can see the trial now. "Those aren't off-road tires" "Oh really? Take a look at these pictures ladies and gentlemen of the jury, does this look off-road to you"?

But the manager 03Roush spoke with should probably transfer to the minivan division of Chrysler since she seems wholly ignorant to what the brand Jeep actually represents.

But it will never be shown that they were thrown away right after they did the trip once.

Does anyone have experience with the Michelin LTX A/T2? It comes in 265-60R18.

I think member netcoolery posted that he swapped some onto his Summit right after taking delivery.
