If you wanted it changed, you should have declined to take the vehicle and got the "issue" corrected.

It looks like some people are saying they will never buy a Jeep again because of this. If it bothers you that much, why take the vehicle in the first place?

And these tires tackled the trails to get a "Trail Rated" badge, that's good enough for me.
Don't really want to go head-to-head here, but...

First of all, I did address the situation with my Sales Manager prior to purchase. He said he didn't think the Latitude Tours would come on the ORAII package, and if they did, he would address that at delivery. Once the vehicle was delivered, he changed his tune. Fortunately, the Service Manager completely agrees with me, and is battling Chrysler on my behalf. Yep, I fault myself for not being more hard-nosed during negotiation and getting something in writing.

Secondly, I don't participate in other Jeep boards.

Thirdly, why would I decline the vehicle over tires? I love this Jeep! Yeah, the tire thing bothers me, and I hope to get it corrected, but it is not a show-stopper. Walking away from the deal over tires, then waiting 2-3 months for another order to come in, and hope it doesn't have any issues...yeah right!

Finally, and I don't know why I'm bothering to reiterate, I paid extra for an On/Off-Road tire and didn't get it. Again, the Latitude Tour is not considered an On/Off-Road tire by any reasonable standard and this includes the manufacturer as well as anyone who sells it (with the exception of Chrysler). It's not "bitching" to request the item I paid for. As for highlighting it here on this forum, hopefully it will help others when they decide whether to purchase the ORAII package.

Re: Off-Road Adventure II Package Tires

The off-road packages does list the same description for tires as non ORI/II Jeeps - "On/Off-Road Tires." So, according to their descriptions, the trail rated jeeps come with the same tires as non trail-rated Jeeps. So in Chrysler's eyes "on/off-road" does not mean "all-terrain"

bobkbusch, I understand your point and i'm not taking sides or anything, but I paid $275 for the ORII pkg on my Overland.. that's a hell of a bargain for the skid plates and tow hooks. So, to me, the fact the tires weren't AT tires was not a big deal.. I ended up getting the ATs I wanted and sold the Michelins.

Re: Off-Road Adventure II Package Tires

I agree, $275 is cheap, but you also have to factor trading in the much more expensive standard 20" wheels and tires on the Overland.

I haven't seen the non ORI/II Jeeps listed with On/Off-Road tires. I believe you that it is stated that way in some brochure or elsewhere, I just haven't seen it.

However, when you use the "Build My Own" option on the Jeep site, the standard tire for the Overland is "265/50R20 Black Side Wall All Season Tires."

The ORII package says "265/60R18 OWL On/Off-Road Tires."

Chrysler is clearly making a distinction. If they meant all-season tires are included in the ORII package, they should have stated it. It's pretty simple in my mind.

I'll probably end up selling my Latitude Tours as well, if I'm not successful with an exchange.

BTW, I did take my Jeep Off-Road recently as you can clearly see in the picture below. I will admit, the Latitude Tours had no trouble getting me back on the pavement.

that's hardcore off-roading right there. You should have called me, I could have went with you and provided a winch if it got real bad.

nice looking jeep BTW. I like that color.

Re: Off-Road Adventure II Package Tires

Fortunately, I was on a slight downhill grade as you can tell if you look closely. That helped with the traction and no tow was necessary. But I do appreciate the offers!

Trying to resist hands moving to keyboard.... but failing... AGAIN!

I see both sides of this argument but I think Jeep was at least a bit misleading about the tires on the ORG I/II tires. My previous Jeeps definitely had different tires from the standard type when I ordered an OR Group. But I'm not making a big deal of the tires. I swap 'em later.

I can't help but note that Jeep could have saved us all this trouble if they had simply stated that the tires were "Shoulder Rated."

Re: Off-Road Adventure II Package Tires

It's reasonable to debate what type of tires should or should not come with the ORII package, but it is completely misleading for Jeep to call a highway tire like this an "On/Offroad tire". This can't be debated, it would be like calling an old tube TV and LCD, it's not correct no matter how you spin it.

sure it can, we have been debating it for a while now.

I consider anything other than a racing slick and on/off road tire. It's not a mud tire, rock crawling tire, desert tire, etc... It is simply a tire that can be taken off road and by Jeep getting the "Trail Rated" badge using this tire, I am sure it is suitable for off road use. Is it the best tire for mud, no. Is it the best tire for snow, no. Is it a capable tire than can handle 90% of the uses a Jeep Grand Cherokee driver will use it for, absolutely.

I have taken mine out in the mud and didn't get stuck and had it during 8" of snow last winter and the jeep performed good in both situations. I am sure there are tires out there that are strictly off road tires that would be better but they will also be gone in 20K miles. I have the Hemi, ORII, and the Latitudes and am happy. Well, I wish they looked a little better but they perform well enough for me.

Even something like an LTX M/S2 is much better off road that the latitude, but easily good for 60,000 miles, and extremely quiet. The Latitude is a silly choice with an Offroad package. I'm trying to come up with a good analogy, but nothing I can come up with sounds any crazier than a minivan tire on a "Trail Rated" 4x4 Jeep with skid plates.

OK, maybe putting a "Heavy Duty Tow Package" on a Prius would be a good comparison ..
