Overland off-road adventure ii question

I posted this on another thread and got no response. Maybe it was the wrong place. I'll try again here. If I'm still wrong, can someone point me in the right direction. Thanks.

My apologies if this was already covered, or I'm looking in the wrong place, but I can't seem to find it. I'm looking to order an Overland 4x4, most likely base model. I like the wheels and tires in the ORA2 package, 18" polished aluminum, a lot more than the stock 20's. I also like the increased sidewall of the 18" tire. I'm not a rock crawler, so the skid plates are not necessary. I know I can remove them, but is there any good reason to do so, such as weight, aerodynamics, or anything else? All opinions from the astute crew on this forum will be greatly appreciated. By the way, although I'm not a serious off-roader, I do occasionally get into some crap on fire trails and back country camping roads.

IMO keep them on. You'll sleep better. Not only for offer road. Friend could not avoid 4x4 deck timber falling off truck in front of him on Mass Pike. Ripped the crap out of the underneath of his Audi A6. They do not weigh enough to affect mpg.

I agree. I read in another thread that the skid plates weigh only about 100 pounds:

weight of Offroad II skid plates?

One of the main reasons I bought my Jeep is that I tow a boat and drive over some pretty poor roads. I broke off parts of the undercarriage and the oil pan on my prior tow vehicle. I got the ORAII Package, but will probably never go truly off road, let alone rock crawling. At the moment, I tow about 3,000 pounds without trailer brakes. I almost high centered the Jeep once when I backed my boat trailer over the bank of a pond and the Jeep's rear wheels sank into soft sand after they came off of a foot of more solid dirt and grass. I was really glad that I had the skid plates, and thank goodness for Quadra-Lift Off-Road II and Quadra-Drive II.
