Powdercoating 17" wheels

I'm getting my 17" stock wheels powdercoated for $600. Not a bad price. I'm planning on adding 265-65-17's either Cooper AT3's or Destination AT's (haven't decided yet.)

Looking forward to it, I saw some pictures of another WK2 with this job done and it looked real good. I contemplated getting the mopar black 18's but the cheapest I can get them is for about 940 shipped and it would require new tires right away.

Can anyone with powdercoated rims give me some advice regarding durability, etc? I'm planning on keeping the center cap chromed/polished.

Re: Powdercoating

I am also in the situation as you. I am considering to have my stock 18" powdercoated as well as that option seems to be more cheaper than buying a new set of wheels. In my discussions with the shop, they informed me that it is durable but then, that was the response that I would expect them to say.

I am leaning towards having them powdercoated to a shade of black to match the rubber trim on the bottom of the car (I have a MIneral Gray Overland). However, I am still debating whether or not to powdercoat the center caps and currently am leaning towards having them powdercoated as well.

Actually that's a terrible price for powdercoating 17inch only wheels. I would look around for a better price. Powdercoating holds up quite well though.

Re: Powdercoating

Holy sheit $600. I've never been charged more than $60 a wheel and that's 20x10. Find another shop.

Re: Powdercoating

I agree that $600 is a bit much if you're just doing one color. Are you getting your tires mounted and balanced with that price?

Re: Powdercoating

60 is low for powder coating in general markets, but average price is 100-125 a piece in NY, 125 being the closer number.

Right Phil and I paid that per wheel for my 5 Step Black Chrome with tinted clear. Point being that depending on the process the cosy van vary.
