Hi all nice to meet you!!

I’m new to the Jeep world and this forum, so my congratulation for this board that is full of good information.
I’ve just bought a second hand Grand Cherokee Summit 2014 and, as you can imagine, I have a lot of questions/concerns.

I would like to go in the desert (I’m actually based in UAE) but I’m concerned about the capability of the car.
I even heard people saying that the air system suspension is not very reliable and that the sand potentially damage it.

Anyway I’m planning to change the wheel as the actual one are street and low profile.
Regarding this could you please confirm that 285/50/20 or 275/55/20 will fit without any issues and at any ride heights?

I will then check the availability of tyres in this region that it’s not very good (I was looking for the Nitto Terra Grapples but apparently are not imported).

Thank for any advice.

Hi there,
Congrats on your GC, I have 265/50R20 for daily use and never had an issue, or rubbing or anything.....so I believe you should be ok with 275 and even 285's.
If you are taking it into the dessert, two main things :
1) lower the air pressure to 18-20 psi
2) remove the lower fascia or if not you risk damaging it.

My first time in the sand was with my street tires and all i did was lower the air...and I made it everywhere without problems.

Hope the information helps you.
Regards and enjoy.

thank you for the advice.

Last night i was measuring the ride height between the GC Summit (at highest ride height) and Pajero, old cherokee and nissan patrol.

The patrol is 3cm/1.5" higher but pajero and cherokee are even lower.

i drove all of them in light sand trails and they were fine so it should be ok.

Regarding the front fender/fascia removal i'm quite confused. I've checked last night and if i remove it i will expose the radiator. is it a good idea?

Hi again,
Yes, when removing the lower fascia some elements end up a little bit exposed...but its far better than damaging the fascia.....it really improves your angle if removed.
Here is how it looks with the fascia removed, this was my first time in sand..and for next trips I had a protection done by a local shop, something that stays permanent so for off road I just take out the lower fascia and I'm ready.

And here is a typical situation in which if I had the lower fascia I would have certainly broken it.

Lower the tires to 20 psi, take out the fascia, and you should be ok, have fun and dont forget the share the pics.
Have fun.
