Re: Pulsating brakes

I noticed my rotor(s) started to give me the warped symptoms after about 30,000 miles. But they only pulse when hot, never cold... smooth. So grinding them will do no good. Can't even tell which one is the trouble maker. I'll have to replace them all, perhaps start with the fronts.

I had a Y2000 WJ that was notorious for OEM rotor warpage. We found good ones, however, and never had another problem (over 100,000 miles). Dunno which are the best for the WK2, but NAPA seems to sell good ones for other Jeep models.

Re: Pulsating brakes

i bought my 2012 with 30K miles and the brakes were pulsing a lot on the test drive. the dealership replaced rotors all around and everything feels great now. as noted in previous posts, the dealer tried to grind them first but that didn't work so they replaced them for free. Question, is your steering wheel vibrating also? I was told by a tech at the dealership that if the steering wheel is vibrating/shaking then its your front rotors and if its brakes pulsating then it's your rear rotors. i'm sure that's just a general guideline but it might help.

I do think that the brakes should be heavier duty especially if there is tow group involved or off road package.
Heat is what warps the rotors. A better heat dissipation system and larger rotors is what is needed.
I hope the new 2014 Cherokees are much better.
There were a pretty good series of GCs where it wasn't heat warping the rotors, it was cheap parts and over torque or just uneven torque of wheels that warped them.

If the OP's rotors warp so soon, they have either been overtorqued or were defective.
Heat, you can sorta spot but I'd ask a local brake guru to take a peak.

There are several really good aftermarket rotors that beat the heck out of the Mopars, but they are pricier. Again a good brake guru could help.
Some of the slotted rotors are poorly made, but sticking with a hot rodder brand should get you good ones.
