QL firming and steering dampener

Hi all,

Anyone know if there is a way to 'firm up' the QL in at least Sports mode. I find the suspension too soft for a 4WD or even a car for that matter. It kind of behaves like a whale on the road... a good looking one, but a whale never-the-less.

Also does anyone know whether the steering provides -or is meant to- any dampening or is there are steering dampener shock in these?

Interesting i didnt realise that it didnt firm up in sport mode. Most air suspension systems out there (Audi, porshe etc.) have active dampening in addition to the lift features so you can tune the ride.. Strange that this is omitted from the Quadralift. Maybe they will include it as a feature later down the road, but that might jack up the price as well.

You can try sway bar links. Some members have found they improve body lean in corners. I know BWoody is one vendor for the links.

Sounds like someone purchased the vehicle without a test drive. It also sounds like someone who's never owned a modern luxury SUV. This isn't a sports car or a sedan for that matter so no matter what you try it isn't going to change the ride significantly. You don't say which wheels you have but if it's the 18's then that's a lot of your problem, I hated that 18's on a test drive. I knew within 2 miles they weren't the tires for me, they change the entire dynamics of the vehicle. Try 20" wheels with Michelin Latitude Tour HP's, you'll like the results. Otherwise, since you have the air suspension my only advice is learn to live with it or sell it.

Personally I've owned a Cayenne, Touareg, Trailblazer SS and various trucks. The Overland is the closest to the Cayenne of the bunch, including the Touareg. I'm perfectly satisfied with the WK2 Overland and that includes a couple thousand highway miles combined with some mountain road running at some decent speeds.

I have test driven the car but at the time I guess I was on too much a 'high' to notice this. Plus I don't recall encountering any speed humps and steep driveway exits during the tests as those are where the suspension softness and lack of steering damping are really evident.

It is true though, I 've never owned a modern SUV and it's also my first air suspension vehicle so it is a new and different experience. Most definetely the complete opposite of a 4Runner and Pajero, both of which I've owned and am familiar with.

All in all, love the car and I think the rest of it more than makes up for it's few shortfalls. So far -knock on wood- very happy with the purchase.

You didn't say what size wheels you have but going to a 20" with a more sport oriented tire will increase the spring rate and that might make all the difference for you. The 18" tires that come stock are very soft and IMHO do not do the suspension justice.

The ride is far better than most of the cars I test drove. It wasn't made for autocross. I have a overland with 20" wheels and in sport mode the car drops and the steering tightens right up. Car shifts at higher rpm and feels a lot better taking corners.

I think I know what wk2limited is talking about. I have an Overland with the 20" wheels and over certain types of bumps the steering damping seems to be lacking. It will bounce the steering wheels back and forth. I think going to 18" wheels would make this condition better because of the larger sidewall these inpacts would be absorbed.
