Question Re: Quadra Lift Air Suspension Failure

Does anyone know what this noise could be???

The air suspension on my 2011 Overland WK2 works correctly but it is making this awful CLUNKING sound when the jeep is being lifted up (but not lowered down). In the video the air suspension begins lifting the jeep at 19 seconds. You will hear the normal sound of the compressor at that time. But then you will hear the CLUNKING sound that is not normal around 30 seconds and again several times after. It sounds like it may be coming from the front of the jeep and not really one of the struts or shocks but I could be wrong. I also occasionally get the "Service Air Suspension" message as well as the "Please wait for air suspension to cool" message when raising and lowering the suspension.

I have also heard a similar noise when hitting a steep driveway (only occasionally). I think the sounds are the same.

If anyone has ever had this problem PLEASE, PLEASE let me know! I am out of factory warranty so I haven't paid for a diagnosis or repair yet. I am considering purchasing an extended warranty from Chrysler so I don't want them to diagnose it yet (then it will be a pre-existing condition). On that note do you think an extended warranty is necessary with a 2011 Overland WK2? Mine is right at 40k miles so they are still offering it to me...

Sounds like your QL compressor may be dying. The QL compressor is in the lower region where you have that camera pointed, you have to crawl under to see it. There are other reports of QL compressor failures on here they are in the $2300 range to replace if remember correctly. No guarantee but given your symptoms and the way the compressor is stumbling when it kicks in that would be my opinion.

Question Re: Quadra Lift Air Suspension Failure

OK. I have a better video.

This is the quadra-lift compressor lifting the Jeep. Has it gone bad? Listen to the knocking at 0:20

Please chime in. I'm trying to decide if I should buy an extended warranty while I can! Should I???

I have been driving the GC since I got it back from the dealer and all seems fine as far as the suspension. It raises and lowers as it should. The dealership replaced compressor, and new lines that went to right rear and refilled according to work order. I know it had to have costed them a pretty penny but it is too new to be replacing parts already and seems I will see this problem reappear down the road. I did purchase the lifetime warranty on it though, I think I will end up using it from the looks of it.

Re: Quadra Lift Suspension Banging and Jolting

I have a 2014 GC with Quadralift...Has anyone besides me noticed the loud jolting and banging when the Quadralift is in "Off Road 2"? This setting allows the greatest ground clearance, however it seems to remove all suspension travel in conditions where it is most necessary...The manufacturer says this is "Normal" because "They all do it"...sounds more like a recall than normal.

Watch for a video coming soon!

Yes they all do it at OR2, use OR1 which is a good height vs flex compromise.

That said, one of the reasons I purchased a MaxCare lifetime extended service contract is because of all the expensive components including QL that potentially could fail and be costly to replace over the 5-7 years I'll likely hold this JGC...
I bought a 2015 WK2 Limited with the Quadralift suspension in July. My son just paid around $2k to have his compressor and a relay replaced in his pre-owned 2011 Overland. I'm seriously thinking about the Maxcare extended service contract, and I'm curious why you chose lifetime rather than the 84 or 96 month plan when you are planning on keeping your Jeep 5 - 7 years. There seems to be a heck of a price advantage for the 84 month plan when I check the figures on line. As they say, just asking....

Yep, it's banging off the stop bumpers....not meant for anything except ground clearance at very low speed.

Simple answer about why the lifetime...mileage. I'm already at 62K and blew out my factory warranty in under two years.

In the past, I never bought extended service contracts on vehicles, but quite often didn't hold them very long and I wasn't putting on the miles like I do now. Between the mileage and all the tech, I decided it was a good idea this time around.

Update: I decided to buy the MaxCare warranty. I got the 4yr/60,000mi version from my local dealer for around $2600 with the starting mileage around 40k. They first offered me a price of around $2800 but when I mentioned cheaper prices on the internet they found a "coupon" to knock off a couple hundred.

Then I took my '11 Overland in to my local dealer at 41,000k miles and had them "fix" the air suspension. All of the details they provided are in the picture below but essentially they did troubleshooting for an entire day and determined that star case s1408000204 described my exact symptoms. Then they replaced the front air suspension line set and fittings ONLY. They DID NOT replace my compressor and the noise you hear in my video has been resolved. And I no longer get the "service air suspension" warnings/errors on my dash.

Best of luck to everyone out there. I am still happy knowing I have the MaxCare warranty and expect it to pay for itself by the time I hit the expiration of 100,000 miles...

Re: Quadra Lift Air Suspension Failure

That $2600 was still a few hundred above what you can get the MaxCare Lifetime contract for online on a new vehicle...but regardless, it's a good thing to have.

Re: Quadra Lift Air Suspension Failure

No issues with QL so far at 25k miles with pretty consistent use. I purchased the 7yr maxcare plan shortly after I purchased, for the same reasons Jim mentioned. A $1500 additional investment was an easy decision on a vehicle with so much tech and my plans to keep the Overland for 7yrs. Purchasing the extended service contract online was the way to go. The dealer wanted almost a 1000 more. Owning a bmw M3 after the standard warranty ran out was a lesson learned. I easily dropped 2k in repairs the year after the warranty ran out.
