As far as I know, that's only when you have an off road package installed- if you don't, you don't have the tow hooks or skid plates, and those might be *really* useful off-road.

I am having the skid plates (and eventually tow hooks- my dealer said those weren't available yet) installed on my Overland- it will have QL, the plates, the hooks, but 20" rims and QTII (instead of QDII). It won't have the trail rated badge, but with a tire/wheel swap out, it should be able to go most anywhere one of the trail rated ones can go.

How much did your dealer quote you for the skid plates? I have a call into mine to see how much they'll run me

Gentlemen, I have to wonder why you would go this route when the Adventure II package (on the Overland) only costs $275 retail. It includes all of the following:

18-Inch x 8.0-Inch Aluminum Polished Wheels
Front Suspension Skid Plate
Fuel Tank Skid Plate Shield
Michelin« Brand Tires
P265/60R18 OWL On/Off-Road Tires
Skid Plate Group
Tow Hooks
"Trail Rated" Badge
Transfer Case Skid Plate Shield
Underbody Skid Plate

Really, it's the best $275 I ever spent on a new vehicle. Are 20's really that important ON A JEEP!?!?

My personal opinion is that the 20" wheels are the best looking option available. A set of these runs over a grand on ebay and I am not a big fan of the stock 18" rims. For me personally, i will probably not take the jeep on too rugged of terrain while it is brand new and the larger wheels should be sufficient. the skid plates would only make me a little more comfortable when I am offroad. At least 95% of the time the 40 grand jeep will be on road so I want it to look the nicest for the majority of the time in my opinion.

Not everyone offroads...and is looking for a good perferoming family hauler that they can mod for looks and speed. All that stuff in the offraod package is nothing but extra weight that I would never use. I personally hate the look of any wheels under 20" on the WJ and up....especially the WK and WK2. Offraoding is JUST not in everyones wants nowadays and Jeep is kind enough to cater to both sides of Jeepers. Thats whats so great about the Wk and WK2.....IMO of course.

About $700ish, but that's installed. It's the fuel tank skid plate that really drives up the cost. Yeah, it's high, ESPECIALLY considering the price of the ORAII group, but it beat throwing this vehicle back and ordering again. If I were to do it again, I'd probably go ahead and opt for the off road package (I don't believe it was showing as available when I ordered, but there was a lot of confusion in early July about what was and was not available at any given time).

I'm really of two minds. On one hand I know I'm not likely to ever go off-roading in any serious capacity. On the other, one of the main attractions to the Jeep is that it has that ability, and if you are buying it for solely on-road purposes, you're partly defeating the purpose. So I decided I'd go with the regular Overland and add the plates and hooks later so I can maybe go off road in the future when I'm not so worried about dinging up a new $40K vehicle. At that point I might even get a set of 18 inch wheels and tires- it would let me keep the 20" ones optimized for on-road and go a bit more aggressive for off road with the 18s because I won't be driving on them all the time.

I really don't think the 20 inch one's are because I think they're quite dull and boring. I prefer the 18 one's. They at least shine a little. I really just wanna see the future 20 inch chrome one's, especially if they're similar to the Dodge Ram's.

Re: Quadra-Lift w/ 18"s or 20"s?

From the sales brochure (that does have known discrepancies):

"Optimal on- and off-road traction is instantly at hand with the available class- leading Selec-Terrain.(1) Five selectable settings electronically coordinate 12 different vehicle management systems, including Hill Start Assist (HSA), Hill Descent Control (HDC), throttle control, transmission shifting, transfer case, traction control, and Electronic Stability Control (ESC).(8) Coupled with the all- new available four-corner Quadra-Lift,TM you’ll have an adjustable suspension span that delivers legendary Jeep« brand Trail Rated« performance."

No mention that the other parts of the Off-Road packages are needed, but the 'badge' is a part of I and II packages as listed in WK2Jeeps.

Also in the brochure, they show a white gold appearing Overland with 20" wheels that does not have the badge on the front fender!

Indeed, you are correct. I did not mean to offend and I often think (wrongly, as my wife continues to remind me) that everyone should think as I do. Different strokes...

I hope the "chrome" wheels arent plastic like some older jeep models.....I wouldnt have them.....The 20's on my overland are, thank god, solid, no plastic.
