Quadralift Air Compressor

Does anyone know a good alternative to the Quadralift Air Compressor the dealers sell. My dealer said the Air Compressor costs $1600 and change and they are looking to charge me $1900 for the whole job. I have a 2014 Summit and im past the 3/36 bumper to bumper warranty and not looking to lay out $1900 for something so miniscule. I see no point in paying the inflated price for a Jeep part when there's probably some aftermarket equivalent (had to replace my rear brake cover just last month and the parts department quoted me like 600 for one quarter panel I got all 4 for 300 total elsewhere). Guessing it is a similar situation with the compressor that it's just Chryslers jacked up pricing. Rediculous all the money i've spent on this car while being under my 3 year loan period. I'd almost trade it in even though I absolutely love the car and the diesel just sick of the service departments not standing behind there work. I was on hold for 20 minutes twice this week just trying to talk to someone about a diagnosis after my car sat there for a day and then 2 days. This was all after I informed them it was probably the air compressor which is apparently on national back order on top of things.

Anyway any help would be useful. My cars just sitting in aero which isn't a huge deal still useable but if I can fix it reasonably I will. $1900 is about 8% the value of the vehicle at this point I just can't keep throwing good money after bad.

Re: Quadralift Air Compressor

Didn't say I had it for 3 years I said all the issues i've had while being under a 3 year loan still. As in im still making loan payments and i've spent stupid amounts of money to fix the vehicle. I'm not accustomed to paying anything more then oil, rubber, and fluids while i'm still making loan payments, it's asinine how much this vehicle is in the shop. The service departments, in my area at least, are programmed to blame any issues on the customer or some aftermarket work was done (happened a few weeks ago when they tried to blame dom's ecoshield for some rattling that was happening on a completely different area and they didn't realize they ordered the ecoshield). I've been to about 4 different service departments in my area and everyone always tries to blame me for doing something I just haven't done.

Re: Quadralift Air Compressor

I have no idea if the QL compressor is a proprietary Jeep/FCA part, but seeing posts here about it being a $2k job was one of the prime reasons I took the MaxCare plunge.

Re: Quadralift Air Compressor

Yes I am at 49,500 miles so past the point of 3/36 bumper to bumper.

There not blaming me this time last time I was in a few weeks ago they claimed I had done an aftermarket mod to the exhaust and sheered off some of the bolts. I never touched the exhaust and they said what about this skid plate that was put on and I told them they did it. There response was regardless you must have done something to the exhaust that was causing a rattle. Anyway some bolts basically had to be cut off and they charged me $250.00 to get new bolts, plasma off the preexisting bolts and replace them with new. Not a huge deal $250.00 whatever i'm on my way and car doesn't sound like shit anymore.

Before that I had an issue with the DEF Injector and had to have it replaced. The dealer charged me for this and didn't seem to give a shit about the fact it was poorly designed so $500.00. I could have argued it and taken it to chrysler corporate, etc. etc., but that was around this time last year and I chalked it up to not having the skidplate on at that time and it being my own stupidity, even though it was really chryslers for designing it where my car couldn't go through a puddle a corolla would have no issues with.

There were some other things I have been in and out for that I can't recall at this moment. Mainly I have spent far too much time with this vehicle in the dealer.

Then this happened service air suspension immediately I was familiar with the problems on the previous generation WK1s as I had heard of them. So I figured probably the compressor. I bring it into a local dealer on Monday night drop it off and i'm on my way. Call the next day around 1 PM and leave a voicemail with service advisor. Never got a call back call the main line and ask for the service advisor get him on the phone after holding 15 minutes it is now around 6 PM and ask him whats going on. They pulled it in and saw the error code, couldn't diagnose it so they issued a star request or something like that basically they had no clue so Jeep was going to tell them. The next day called again around 1-2 PM left a voicemail no call back. Called again at 6 PM and asked for the service manager after holding 25 minutes got the service manager he told me he had ordered the part and it was on national backorder I could come pickup my car. I responded umm ok thats great how much. More fumbling by the service advisor about 10 minutes after asking the question he told me $1900.00. I just said im just going to pick up my car thank you very much and grabbed it.

So now here I am looking for information about an aftermarket option not people to nitpick about the math on how long I have had my car for.

Re: Quadralift Air Compressor

Just curious what happened to the compressor? I've been through some compressor dealings on my Rover in the past a quite a few were able to be fixed without replacement. I realize this is closed loop nitro, but figured I'd ask anyway. There are tons of things compressor related that are not actually the compressor.

Re: Quadralift Air Compressor

With the EXPENSIVE issues with this {MY 14} and my previous '08 GC, I would not own one without bumper-to-bumper coverage. If everything had happened at the same time instead of being spread out over 2 months...my '08 would have been close to being a write-off!

I don't think the compressor is just like an 'air compressor'(like the ones that were on 80's Cadillacs & Buicks) ...isn't this a 'closed' system that's nitrogen filled?

Re: Quadralift Air Compressor

Did you ask Billt ? He tends to keep his cars forever and is very in tune with the American cars. Based on his wealth of knowledge and commitment to his Jeep, I am sure he has planned for such a failure. You'll find him in the Range Rover thread.

Did you get a part number and did you try to buy it online? Even buying it online from another dealership or Mopar parts supplier might save a few hundred dollars.

That's a bummer. It's one of the reasons that I got the lifetime service contract on mine. I looked at all the electronics and gizmos and figured discretion was the better part of valor. I've never bought an extended warranty on anything before, but I plan on keeping this vehicle for a long time.

It is as you note.
I dunno if a Mercedes junkyard compressor would fit the Jeep or not.

Without an extended warranty, I'd sure be inclined to find out.
