Quadralift replacement

Hey guys, silly question. I was wondering if it was possible to replace the quadralift air bags and struts with normal ones that don't burst? Second failure so I'm frustrated with the whole thing

Re: Quadralift replacement

I'm sure there's a way to do it. The front has the whole airbag built into the strut so you'd just need to get the standard spring/strut setup. In the back, the airbag replaces the spring, so as long as the spring perch is somewhere in there, you're good. Might need a different lower control arm that takes the spring instead of the airbag? Not sure.

Re: Quadralift replacement

If all mounts are the same, I'd think, or interchangeable, it'd seem logical but I think once you remove the associated devises and plug ins, the computer is going to flip out and while it may be driveable I don't think it'll be anywhere near seamless. The things that can't be turned off that are integrated may cause massive issues. Unless fiat miraculously left the air separate from everything. I don't count dash lights on and drama as a running vehicle unless it's for trail use.

There's a company locally that does air strut rebuilds and coil conversion from Lincoln to Mercs and he's thinking about doing this platform right now since he sells a lot of ml/g/? And grand shocks.

Re: Quadralift replacement

I was watching a car show last weekend, and they covered the topic of replacing air suspension struts/shocks with traditional units. They were discussing a Ram truck in particular, but it is likely that the same manufacturer makes GC compatible units.

Do a web search for Motor Week TV and see if you can find the video.

How are you driving your Jeep to burst two of them?

I drive/wheel my 2013 JGC Trailhawk HARD and haven't had any QuadraLift issues. I think I would have to intentionally drop off a high obstacle while in OR2 to "burst" one of mine.

Re: Quadralift replacement

It would be a majorly expensive modification to do what you propose. There are previous threads on this. Bursting an air bag is a very unusual thing. Doing it twice should be sending you out to buy a lottery ticket... For those folks who do have issues with QL, it's most often the compressor going on the fritz.

Re: Quadralift replacement

I've had both rear air springs burst, on different occasions. While I was washing the jeep, the passenger side was kind of gradual but went down in minutes. The drivers side (around a year later) was quite spectacular in the banging noise it made.

Re: Quadralift replacement

Sounds a bit unbelievable i work with airbags everyday of the week on trucks and never ever have we had one blow up. Yes they perish and go flat or get holes from abrasives but never explode

Re: Quadralift replacement

It's highly unusual for the actual airbags to blow. As I noted, most folks who do experience QL failures have compressor issues.

The bottom line, however, is that there's not a good economically feasible way to replace the QL outside of buying a non-QL JGC.

Re: Quadralift replacement

Trust me it exploded, seeing as the system is supposed to be filled with nitrogen temperature difference shouldn't be an issue. So I cannot explain why it blew, was hard enough to snap the fitting off of it.
