Re: Question about Sport mode

Moosehead, thanks for the comment on my 55. I've got an Overland on order so soon, I'll have 2 Bad rides.

Re: Question about Sport mode

I was using Sport mode all the time, but have gone back to Auto because I don't like the shifting in Sport. I have a V8 with tons of torque. But in Sport mode, everytime I push on the pedal, it immediately downshifts (and not very smoothly). I like Auto mode shifting better because it will stay in the gear I'm in and use the torque of the engine as long as I'm not demanding too hard an acceleration. Just my personal experience....

Interesting, I haven't noticed a difference in shifting but i only have 300 miles on it so I haven't been paying that much attention. I'll have to see if I notice that.

I just wish the darn thing would stay in Sport mode and not go back to Auto every time you get back in. Something as simple as remembering the last mode you were in would be great.

That might put the GC in violation of EPA rules for establishing official mileage figures. If Sport mode could be user-selected as the default, then the EPA might require the vehicle to be tested in that mode, thereby lowering the official mileage figures and impacting Chrysler's fleet requirement.

It is an FMVSS regulation that requires going back to Auto mode.

You both are over thinking it. My Cayenne and Touareg would stay in the last mode set except ORII. Although the literature says "sportier tune to give it a RWD feel" there's nothing that clearly states the engine tune is changed and going to 80% RWD would actually reduce drag and improve MPG.

My bet is they want to make sure you always start out with full traction control on and have to make a conscious effort to turn it off.

Hahahaha... no.

Since it holds gears longer and boosts throttle response, it will use more fuel. I don't know how much more, but some.

Mark these words! When the 8spd makes its appearance we will hear endless carping about this very thing!

You've been answered. It will not save fuel. Driving in a more enthusiastic manner will use more fuel. Staying in gear longer, getting going more quickly, all that uses more fuel. It takes energy to accelerate a vehicle, and that energy comes from fuel. More acceleration = more fuel use.

If you want the best fuel mileage, stay in AUTO and drive more sedately.
