Re: Question about Sport mode

+1.

Am pretty impressed overall with how the JGC does offer settings that make real differences in the drive of the car. My wife swears by QL park mode (might only be 1" or so, but it's night and day for her), and the terrain settings as we know make small but effective changes (like 'em or hate 'em). Was afraid the terrain-tech stuff would be mostly farkling, but it's not. Good engineering, in the sense that it's designed within specs that put meaningful choices in the hands of the driver.

Lots of mileage upside potential in these cars with both engines, IMO. ~1-2 mpg difference between the V8 and the SRT8? And the relative small diff between V8 and V6? Can't help but think Chrysler just got a bit lazy, as the marketers knew this wouldn't be a deal-breaker for the JGC's demographic. And the sales are proving them right.

Just my 2c.

Re: Question about Sport mode

I really like the Sport mode. The suspension seems firmer, and the truck does exactly what you tell it (throttle especially). How much of this is the placebo effect I don't know, but if it ain't towing, offroad, snowing, or icy, it is in Sport mode when I drive it. Good job on that Jeep.

Re: Question about Sport mode

I just got back from a ~1500 mile trip from Pittsburgh to Alabama to Gatlinburg and back to Pittsburgh. Once on the highway, there is no difference in auto or sport mode that I noticed. They both shifted fine and downshifted when I needed it to. I noticed no difference in gas mileage or anything else. Around town, I like sport mode with the tow haul turned on but on the highway, whatever it is in at the time is good for me. I averaged 21 mpg for the life of the trip. That includes rolling around Cages Cove and going up the mountain to Clingmans dome in Gatlinburg. I am quite happy with the v8, I don't think the v6 would have been much better.

Once the hemi gets to about 80mph on the highway, it really wants to go. That seemed like the sweet spot for mileage and performance on the highway. It really likes that speed or a little bit higher, I noticed no difference in mileage until I started following a older Cobalt SS for a few miles at about 95mph. It dropped down a little bit at that speed.

Re: Question about Sport mode

Ok guys, but why does the Sport mode disables the ESC?
I understand that since Im driving on higher speeds, I would like that the Electronic Stability Control could help me if something goes really wrong on the way!

What am I missing?

Thanks!

what you are missing is that there is already a "mode" for that called auto...if you want the ESC on then leave your skirt on and stay in auto...if you want more responsiveness and personal control of your vehicle then come to the dark side and pop that baby in sport mode.

Re: Question about Sport mode

Its been discussed already that even with ESC off, the WK2 still has a less invasive stability program still in effect. So it is never completely off...

I wish there was a dark side that would turn the computer controlled crap off.

I found a slight difference in auto vs sport mode when on wet grass in a big field. Sport mode lets the wheels spin an extra .15 seconds (or so it seems). I really think Jeep likes putting orange lights on the dash to make us think it's doing something. I really wish we could turn off the ESC and all the other BS and have some fun.

I guess it's a trade off though. The wrangler is horrible for a daily driver but fun offroad. The GC is a great daily driver but no fun off road.

+1 to that. Ever try drifting on a gravel road with the WK2 (of course only where it is safe to do so)? The fun is sure spoiled by ESC cutting on and off. It would be nice to have a full OFF switch.

Re: Question about Sport mode

Well, if you really want to have some fun with that, you could try just pulling the J06 fuse and then go knock yourself out. Remember, you'll be without ABS and ESP with that fuse removed! Fuse is 40 Amps & Green.

Not sure if the WK2 has the ability to disable it through a hold on the ESP button at startup... (Some of the LX cars had this ability)
