Quick Spec Question on ORAII

I did a search here and on the web as well as allpar and jeep sites but I can't find anywhere that lists how much weight adding the ORAII package to an Overland adds? It's obviously the skid plates, tow hooks, badge, 18" tires and polished wheels and the extra electrical sealing for the water fording etc. I'm just curious how much weight it adds to the vehicle and whether any of it is offset by the 18" wheel and tire combo vs. the standard 20" on the Overland. Also curious what, if any effect that will have on fuel economy even if just really slight.

Also, anyone know if you get charged more for service items like oil changes, routine maintenance etc. for having the skid plates?

Re: Quick Spec Question on ORAII

I think I remember reading here in the chat with the jeep engineers that the skid plates are about 90 lbs.

EDIT: weight of Offroad II skid plates?

Oh, and the front skid plate as square hole in it to grant access to the oil drain plug. Should be non-issue.

But yeah, if access is needed to axles, differential, tranny, etc., I'd guess there'd be extra labor for removing / re-installing whatever plates they need to get behind.

Re: Quick Spec Question on ORAII

I did not get the package because my salesman told me it weighed several hundred pounds and I was concerned about gas mileage and do not do severe off roading. Turns out he was wrong, so I have since added front and transfer case skid plates. The tow hooks are several pounds each, but the other items are minimal. I have seen no change in gas mileage. If I were to do it again, I would order the package.

Thanks that's good to hear. I figured the MPG was negligible so I'm glad to hear it confirmed. I'm also wondering about the maintenance services costing more because of needing to remove the plates which is why I'm considering a 5 year maintenance plan if I can figure out what a good price is to negotiate it as part of the purchase.

The front one has access, but even if one has to be removed, they are just bolted on which should be quick work on a lift. There is room to reach around them too. The higher cost for the maintenance plan is due to 4WD vs 2WD, not the skid plates. I did not buy a maintenance plan... no reason... that's just me, I prefer to pay as I go. I have read that there is considerable negotiation room, up to 50% off. The plans are a big money maker for the dealers.

I brought-in online prices for the service level I wanted to buy to the dealer on the day I closed on my 2011 JGC. Significantly lower than the dealer's quoted price.

Dealer matched the online price on the spot without a blink. Makes me wonder if I had some additional wiggle-room I could have leveraged.

You don;t need to buy the plan on the day of purchase. For me, was just easier to get this out of the way up-front. No ties to the purchase transaction at all. Also, no need to buy from the dealer; you can buy the same plan online.

Good luck!

Where did you get on-line prices for the service level you wanted to buy to help with negotiations with your dealer?

Re: Quick Spec Question on ORAII

I think this is the site I used. You can enter your info and get a quote. This is what I brought to my dealer.

Mark et al,

I'm not talking about the extended warranty (maxcare lifetime). I'm talking about a 5 year maintenance plan. The only thing the chryslerwarranty website shows is after you select your extended warranty option, the next screen shows a "Owner Care Convenience Upgrade" and a "Customer Convenience Upgrade". The Owner care one is just oil changes every 3mo/3k mi along with first day rental, $1K trip interruption etc. but those last two items are included in the extended warranty anyway. Essentially it offers up to 4yrs/60K for $425 which covers ONLY oil changes (total of 20 at 3k intervals). The Customer Convenience upgrade is just for tires (not wheels). They have terms up to 4yrs/60K for $180.

What I am looking for is the 5yr/80K and 7yr/100K maintenance plans that includes ALL SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE per the manual (oil changes, spark plug replacements, etc. etc.).

Can anyone provide this info on where to get pricing online to negotiate with the dealer like we can with the extended warranties already covered? Thanks!

This site gives you the names and information of all the maintenance packages but no pricing. The ones I'm interested in getting pricing on are the following:

Scheduled Maintenance Care
Scheduled Maintenance Care Plus
