Of course, even a JGC with Blizzaks and Spikes-spiders can't handle deep snow and steep roads - that calls for this outfit:
Like the winter treads on your Wrangler. Shame no one makes anything similar for WK2s

Actual time wise, roughly 1 day a week at most on snow, where that is either weekend mountain trips or just the occasional snowfall on normal driving.

Not nearly as well as a good all season or regular tire.

However, they DO wear much better than a vehicle without them would.
And are far far far cheaper than a raise in insurance rates, lawsuit, vehicle repair etc. The deductible on a collision will pay for some premium snows.

However, you are forgetting about their other benefits which could apply to you. Their tread compounds are designed for traction at far lower temperatures than any all season tire is. This applies on dry roads at low temperatures or cold rain.

Re: Ready for winter 2014 GC Summit on 18" wheel Michelin X-ICE 2

In the DC area snow covered roads can happen 1 day total for the winter or as long as 25+ days. 25 + days was when we got about 6ft total in two storms about a week apart.

I have never had winter snow tires that suffered from any wear issues and typically get at least 5 seasons or more out of a set of winter tires.

See link fro R&T I previously posted.

I have never had a winter tire chunk or anything else. Typically in the DC area we get a week or so where temps get above 50 degrees or more around the end of January.

Speaking of pics, johnnyiowa, how about some pics of your WK2 out in the daylight to show how the new wheels look with the Granite?

few pictures of the black summit with Limited/ORA II wheels and nokian r2. last photo just to give an idea of the kinda conditions I've been driving the last couple of days... not a single slip so far, very good break distance in general, but I've got the ABS to work a few times at the parking lot :-) but not a single time in normal driving at the street!

Re: Ready for winter 2014 GC Summit on 18" wheel Michelin X-ICE 2

I too just got a set of Hakkapelitta R2 SUV's installed on 18" rims and drove in some sloppy conditions; so far very impressed!! Last year I drove in a blizzard to get to Pittsburgh and the stock 20's were average. Tonight I felt I was on rails!
