Recommended Replacement for Goodyear Fortera 20"?

I have 40k miles on these tires and they are getting low on tread, but not necessarily ready for replacement. Probably in a few months. However, snow is just around the corner so figure I replace before snow. What would be the next step up in tires that would last a little longer and handle better in snow? I think the Goodyears are just ok for snow. This jeep is a daily city and highway driver. No offloading.

My Jeep is 2014 Grand Cherokee w/ 20" rims.

Re: Recommended Replacement for Goodyear Fortera 20"?

There are a great many threads here about this subject and various tires to move to from the Forteras. Please take a few minutes to work through this forum area as well as use the "search" feature, perhaps with "Fortera" as a subject.

Re: Recommended Replacement for Goodyear Fortera 20"?

I replaced the Forteras with Michelin LTs because at 20k I was feeling slip and seeing the TC light come on when wet (we get about 50"/year here including frog stranglers).

My experience with Michelins (on three of my cars now) is that even 2/3 worn they still have good wet weather traction and I accept the GC feeling a little squirmy when new in the dry for that.

Michelin Defender LTX M/S is decent in snow for an all season and also long tread life. Nokian WR SUV 3 also a good all season slanted towards snow.

Those Nokians are probably the best choice for an all season hwy tire with a severe snow and ice winter rating! You can get them in the OEM P265/60R20 size as well as the very popular plus sized P275/55R20 for 20" WK2 Grand Cherokee's

Re: Recommended Replacement for Goodyear Fortera 20"?

Just put on GY Adventure ATs in 275 55 r 20. These are the same tires mandated for ambulances in British Columbia for use all year 'round.

I had then on the '08 GC Limited 's' in an oversized 18' and was impressed with the winter traction up north in the cold (-40*) as well as here on The Island where we occasionally get a dump of wet snow.

Just got back from a 750 km trip to Castlegar for work.....no noisier than the Forterras......handled the twisties without sliding like the Forterras. Did a bit of 'off-roading', as my passenger was a geo-cacher.....definitely better grip than the Forterras.

So far...I'm happy....now, only time and kms will tell.

Take a look at the Continental DWS's...they are a good tire and will be nice after winter as well.
