Replacing a single tire?

I just found that i have a very slow leak from the sidewall one of my stock Goodyear Forteras. I bought it certified about 5 weeks ago with 30K miles and i'm guessing these are the original tires.
Question is, do i replace one or must I replace all four. Whats the sensitivity of these 4x4 Jeeps to varying treadwear? Not really sure how much more life i can expect out of these, and frankly, a bit surprised the dealer didnt replace them before certifying the truck.
Thanks

Re: Replacing a single tire?

If it were me, I'd get rid of the Forteras and put four decent tires on my Jeep. Check out the threads here that discuss tires. Lots of good ideas according to what your usage will be.

+1 unless those tires have 8/32nds or more

Re: Replacing a single tire?

Honestly, I agree with jacko15...30K miles if they are original tires, I'd not consider buying a single tire at all. At a minimum, it would be two (two fronts or two backs, depending on where the "offending" tire is) but I'd do all four at this point.

Re: Replacing a single tire?

Like others have said, it's probably best to replace all 4. To answer your original question though I cut a tire on some debris while on vacation in Charleston last year and had to get a single replacement. I haven't had any issues with the new tire with my other 3 older Forteras. That being said once my Fortera's are worn enough to replace I'll probably buy a new complete set and a new 20" rim for the 4th and keep the replacement Nitto i bought as a spare (also had some curb damage from unsuccessfully trying to avoid said road debris)

Re: Replacing a single tire?

The real issue comes in with what is left on the other tires; Quadra Drive 2 looks at different wheel spin speeds. If tires are not matching within a percentage it can cause problems with the T/C.

If you don't or can't replace all the tires you might want to talk to Jeep and give them the tire depth and see what they have to say.
