Re: Rubicon wheels with pics

I've got 275/55-20s on my Summit without any rubbing (31.9 inches tall but wider than the 255/75-17). Even in sport/aero mode around town I haven't been able to get them to rub, going up driveways, quick turns, etc. I haven't tried them offroad yet.

Re: Rubicon wheels with pics

I've been looking for M/T tires for my '13 GC Trailhawk in the stock size (265/60/18, approx. a 30.5" tire on an 18x8 rim) but no luck. Aftermarket wheels in an 18x8 are really limited and are too ugly imho. So I started looking at Jeep wheels and what was available on CL and Ebay. Seems that there are a fair number of people up-sizing their new Wrangler Rubi's. These come with a 17"x7.5" wheel with a M/T 255/75/17 tire (~32.1" dia.). Prices run from about $1K to $1.5K for a set of 5 new wheels and tires.
Weird... '14 Rubi wheels don't fit my '13 GC Trailhawk.

Had a chance to test fit the Rubi combo on the Trailhawk. Slipped it on the front and first thing I found was the lugs stick out further by about 1/2" because of the deep resessed hole on the Rubi rim. Plus, the lug nuts aren't open so they won't seat up against the rim. (Both wheels have the 5x5 bolt pattern, but the offset is different). The third thing I found, with the Rubi wheel pushed up against the hub was that the inside of the Rubi "spokes" touch the outside face of the caliper. Also, depending on where adhesive weights are placed looks like they could make contact with the caliper as the wheel turns.

Like the looks of the Rubi wheel just wish it fit!

Daughter's '12 GC has 17' rims, guess I could test fit those and see it they clear the caliper.

Anybody running the new Rubi wheel on a '13GC? Could it be that there's something different with the calipers on a quadra-lift vehicle?

Thanks

You probably have the HD brakes on yours. Does it have a hemi? I know a lot of people were using a wheel spacer about 1.5in to get them to clear the Calipers.

Re: Rubicon wheels with pics

Did your '14 come with 17", 18", or 20's ???

No Hemi, opted for the V6. A little less weight on the front end, better gas mileage, and I'm not going to be pulling a 7500lb plus trailer. Mine does however have the trailer hitch option. Thought about "spacers" but that would put the tires out past the fenders. Probably ok if it was just going to live on the street but that's not the plan. Spend a fair amount of time wheeling in the Sierra's and out in the western Nevada desert.

Too bad Jeep didn't make the "Hawk" like their orange Concept 2 version - with custom fenders and flares, 35" tires on the Rubi wheels.

BTW, White is the fastest color and yours looks good.

Here's mine on it's first road trip over into Nevada.

I have a '14 Laredo E and also have the V6 and couldn't get the 17" JK Moab wheels to fit mine either, even though I've seen a few people fit them with no problem in the same setup.

Not sure what the differences could be, but I'm opting for some 1.25" spacers to make them work. I'll be using some 265/70 tires and from what I've seen others using, the tires will be almost flush with the wheel wells.

*Oh and lovely picture. I live right up in the Sierras myself.

Just curious are your rear rotors solid or vented?

Re: Rubicon wheels with pics

you only get the HD brakes if you have the Tow package or the Diesel.

I've seen them with the hemi as well. I have the tow package and don't have HD brakes
