school me on Jeep 4x4 options

Question about what Grand Cherokee platform would be best to start with.

A few years back I had a 2012 GC Summit with the Hemi but it was only 2 wheel drive (I loved this SUV). I sold the GC to buy a Viper (which I still have) and then I bought a 2014 Ram 1500 (but again only 2 wheels drive). Now I have the urge to build a 4x4 GC but not knowing much about the different options Jeep offers, I'm unsure what would be best for me to start with. I just assumed that I wanted to start with the "trail rated" package group (Off-Road Adventure II) but it looks like those all have the air ride suspension. I've read that I can't lift the air ride equipped Jeeps. Is this true? If that's true what would be the next best option?

My must have list:
looking to buy a new 2016
1.) 5.7L engine & 4x4
2.) heated and cooled seats (live in Houston and cooled seats are needed)
3.) I wanted ACC but it sounds like this causes problems with after market bumpers and winch combinations so I'm undecided on this.

4.) color has to be silver.

Jeep Grand Cherokee WK2 - Quadra-Lift Air Suspension system
Jeep Grand Cherokee WK2 - Transfer cases

I think you can get the Limited with Quadra-Trac and no Quadra-lift air ride

This is true. I have the offroad I package on my limited. I did this specifically to avoid the air suspension. If I remember correctly the only difference from the way my Jeep is equipped vs the offroad II is the limited slip rear axle and the air suspension.

Thanks, I'm new to all this "Quadra" stuff and this helps a lot.

Be aware that there are currently no full lifts available for the 2016's due to the suspension changes. You can still get some spacer/leveling kits though.

Well that's a bummer but thanks for the heads up.
I'm going shopping for a new GC this weekend.

I don't remember the specifics but you could probably search all my posts and find some info. I know there is some info in this thread.

FYI, I talked to rocky road outfitters and they said that that 2015 lift works on the 2016.....it's just the upper control arms that don't fit. But the lift works fine with the stock arms.

Looks like I might be going a different direction anyways. Wife will be getting the new GC with all the bells and whistles (including air ride and Eco-diesel). I'm getting a hellcat Challenger. 😊

Re: school me on Jeep 4x4 options

Limited 4x4 with the Luxury Package and Off Road 1 is probably what you're looking for. QT2 is included - full time 4wd with a 2 speed transfer case and selectable off-road 'modes'. Lux Pack inclusdes bells and whistles like HIDs, ventilated seats, etc. and normal suspension you can improve on if you like with up-rated springs and shocks.

Think twice before you go for a spacer lift or RRO's kit - it's really a poor option compared to shocks and springs. Is it worth the savings of a couple of hundred bucks when you're spending $50k on a new truck? I'd say it really isn't...

I think a fully specced out Limited is nearly the same cost as an Overland with the same kit...so not sure about the value proposition. But it's probably worth it to avoid being locked into the gimmicky Quadra Lift suspension.

Yep, that's exactly what I'm looking for. I'm shopping for a new 2015 limited (cheaper so more money for mods) but I'm going to be out of town for a bit so I'll have to pickup my shopping when I get back.

I appreciate all the help and I can hardly wait to start building up my new WK2.

Back on track.....I took a Hellcat for a test drive and it was fun but I already have a fast/fun street car and I think I'd get tired of the Hellcat pretty quickly. So I'm back on the GC kick again.
