Selec terrain vs original selec trac

Have a question about real world use and experience of selec terrain in comparison to the original selec trac in my 2000 WJ.

In selec trac I can put it into pt 4wd and have the center diff lock, which is useful in many situations and driving in snow. I'm familiar with how the selec terrain works, but does it have similar performance to pt 4wd? I've never had any real traction issues with my WJ, and am wondering if QTII will provide similar, worse, or better performance. Or, if I should put QDII on my list of must have options. (THe list seems to be getting longer!)

There is no "part time" 4WD with JGC in the current generation. It's always in 4WD mode but has the electronic means to vary front/back power balance, such as with Sport mode where more attention is paid to the back end. The rear ELSD available with QD-II is helpful to some folks and not even noticeable for others. The JGC computer uses targeted braking to help with traction. There's a Jeep video that illustrates how the current drive trains work...I don't have a link, but it's been posted here a number of times.

I had Selec Trac in my 2002 WJ and that system was far superior (in my opinion) to the QT I that was in my 2008 WK, which coincidentally did get stuck once or twice in the snow, QT I was pretty much all wheel drive though and no low range. My 14 Limited with QT 2 never got stuck and powered through some deep stuff as well as on some beaches with those garbage OEM Michelin's. I have QD2 in my 17 and I'm pretty excited to see what that system can do in the snow. Personally I think QT 2 is an improvement over selec trac, yes you lose 2wd but the electronic advancements of the system and how it adapts to specific terrain more than make up for losing 2wd. If you are solely worried about snow and mild off road terrain, you won't have a problem.

Thanks. This the kind of feedback I'm looking for. Mostly for stability and traction on bad winter roads at normal speeds. WIth selectrac if you need a little more stability or traction it is easy enough to put in in and out of 4wd high (pt 4wd). Not worried about losing 2wd as mine pretty much stays in 4wd fulltime in the winter.
