Shock replacement

On the 14 models when replacing the rear shocks is an alignment required after the repair ?

Re: Shock replacement

Does anyone know the torque specs for the rear shock bolts?

I plan to replace the rear, but may let a shop do the fronts.

Re: Shock replacement

Thanks for the info.

Has anyone replaced their rear shocks? The service manuals shows 173 ft. lbs for the lower bolt on the shock. That seems high.

I did mine and yes that's correct. My torque wrench maxed out at 150, so I just did it to that spec and then gave it an extra turn using a 1/2" drive breaker bar.

Awesome information thanks. Been looking for this. Any idea if there is something similar with sizes for the various bolts in the suspension?

Re: Shock replacement

16 or 18mm for the upper shock bolts and 19mm/24mm I believe are the sizes for the bottom nut and bolt.

Re: Shock replacement

Did you happen to replace your front shocks? How hard was it? I'm debating on doing this myself.

I replaced the fronts on my Z a few years ago and remember it being a lot harder than rears. You had to be careful with the spring compressor.

Re: Shock replacement

I finished up the front and rear shocks a couple of weeks ago. I replaced them with Monroe (from Rock Auto). It was as I expected. The rear shocks were easy. The front shocks were a pain. I had to free the upper control arm and tie rod ends to get enough clearance in there. Also, I had to compress the spring down a ton.
