silent armor tire pressure

I went from the 20's to 18" silent armors for the winter and I was just wondering what pressure others run. I had the set at 35 cold and this seems too high they felt overinflated on the road. I lowered to 33 cold and the ride is better but it looks to me like the sidewall has a ltlle buldge. It could be just me though. Just wanted to know what others thought?

Re: silent armor tire pressure

What ply is the new tire rated at, A simple rule of thumb the higher the ply/tear strength the lower the pressure you can run if it looking to reatian factory ride characteristics. Just remember you have an additional concern with the tps, tire wear, braking etc... And since you went to a smaller tire/rim combination you changed sidewall diameter, a smaller rim with a larger sidewall tire gives you more flex, a larger rim with a smaller sidewall give you more rigidity. Experiment with pressure and think about nitrogen as it retains the tire pressure over temperature changes and tire heat up....Good luck

Re: silent armor tire pressure

Factory recommend TP for 18" is 33 psi. I run at 33 in summer and 34 in winter at 60 degrees F.

Re: silent armor tire pressure

The south facing windows in my garage keep it warmer than the cold Winter air outside, so I keep my 18 inch Blizzak DM-V1s at 34 psi cold.

Re: silent armor tire pressure

Just keep in mind what the factory tps setting is for tire/rim combination when switching. You can usually go a few lbs in either direction before you trip the magnet that the tps is calibrated too. The factory has tolerances set for variable's altitude, heat, tire warm-up etc...and just because you trip the tps doesn't mean you can't run that pressure, you'll have that annoying little light on in the dash and you may do more tire wear/damage at a different pressure. I run slightly lower on my 06 TJ that doesn't have tps, thankfully...but keep facory pressure on the Firestone tires I put on My ' 2011 GC after the lift was put in which went from a 245/70X17 GoodYear to a 265/70x17 Destination
