Snow in NYC, winter tires?

Does anyone on Wk2 from NYC area already changed to winter tires set? This night reminds me January storms this year. Not sure if it is right time to change, my set is in basement but I will probably wait week or two more for colder temperaure. What about you?

Re: Snow in NYC, winter tires?

Mine are still waiting for snow, as soon as first storm hits i plan to mount them. I understand waiting though as it is still October. Also i drive very little so the delay makes little difference, i just hope to wait until after thanksgiving as i am driving 500 miles to visit family that week.

I travel to NJ (just outside NYC) from DC for Thanksgiving and usually put the winter shoes on just before the trip. But this year I am having the snow tires ( 20 inch Blizzacks) mounted next week since JEEP is going in for oil change anyway. I am also anxious to see how the winter tires feel on the JEEP and if they were properly balanced by Tire Rack. Also, with this early snow in October, who knows what may happen before Thanksgiving this year!

Re: Snow in NYC, winter tires?

I usually change over for November but so far the weather has been better than normal for southern Ontario. Based on the weather report for the comming week, I'll wait at least another week.

Re: Snow in NYC, winter tires?

I usually change over to my snows in November, or when the daytime temps are consistently down in the single digits.

I may not get snows for my new GC until next fall. I want to see how it is the first year while the tires are brand new.
Especially since new 18" rims, tires, and pressure sensors are going to be about $1300.00 - a lot of $$ right now.

Re: Snow in NYC, winter tires?

I had my WK2 for one month of last winter in upstate NY and the stock Michelins did well on ice and snow covered roads. Now I have LTX M/S'2 for 12 month use.
Wife has Volvo XC-70 and changes over her tires. Apparently the 2 snow storms in Oct. this year freaked her out and she wants the winter treads on later this week.
