Spare Tire Storage Ideas

During the summers I run 33's which do not fit into the tire storage bin in the back. Last year I keep the spare on the roof but would like to relocate so I could actually use the roof cargo bin, park in garages and not slip a disc trying to get tire on/off the roof (it weights close to 100 lbs).

I'm aware of this Tire Gate product
http://www.tiregate.com/product-category/hg-series/ but I dont like the fact the backup camera and sensors would be useless.

So my question is, what ideas/suggestions does anyone have for storing an oversize spare?
Thanks for any help!

Re: Spare Tire Storage Ideas

Does the diameter fit in the spare well with all the cubbies removed? I know the tire width will be too wide for the cover to get back on, but if the tire fits otherwise, you could build a false cargo floor over it. It wouldn't be too difficult.

Right on, thanks. It does fit, just too tall by about 1.5". I let air out of the tire but that did nothing. I am considering building a frame to raise the floor, but wanted to see how others dealt with the issue.

Re: Spare Tire Storage Ideas

I think raising your floor 2" is a much better alternative than having no spare, having on the roof, or hanging out back. A weekend afternoon with a table saw, plywood, 2x4s, and black carpet wouldn't be so bad.
