sport mode on long haul trip

Does anyone have any solid info on whether or not it is OK to run in sport mode on a long high speed hwy trip? Does it somehow wear the driveline more to do so or not to worry? Thanks.

Re: sport mode on long haul trip

I drove my jeep from Baumholder to Berlin a 6 hr drive in sport mode all the way and seems the same. I really do not think it would do anything if it did then i really do not think jeep would have put it in. Doesnt say anything in the manuel either.

Re: sport mode on long haul trip

I can't see it doing any harm given that the QL suspension automatically switches to sport (aero) mode after reaching a certain speed such as 65 mph. regardless of the miles driven.

Re: sport mode on long haul trip

I drive highway all the time in sport mode with no problems. Drove from, MA. to IL 14 hours in sport mode with no problem, all it does is reduce traction control and transfer torque at about 80% to rear. No wear involved.

Re: sport mode on long haul trip

Sport mode is the same as resting height,... where you Jeep settles into once parked. Is all this means is that basically the air system is not pumped up at all. The only air would be the jeep leveling itself for a load with heavy tongue weight in the rear. Absolutely fine to do.

Cheers,
Bryan

Re: sport mode on long haul trip

Solid info would be hard to find. The only modes that may add enough wear and tear to the drivetrain to notice are ones where the transfer case is locked. In theory sport mode could have the least amount of wear as it puts least stress on the front end, but I doubt if you would notice. Additional transfer case wear, if any, would happen on curves and parking lots. Now running figure eights continuously could have some adverse impact.

Re: sport mode on long haul trip

I agree with there not being an issue with side to side wear, but really what I meant was the 80% rear torque split. I wonder if it wears some clutch plate in the center diff... I just don't know...
