STD Rear shock and Nivomat side by side

The nivomats are heavier

Longer

and have a larger circumference

I just added these to my Laredo X it was a straight forward swap and took about
30 minutes per side.

Firstly thinks for sharing.

Do you mean you have added Nivomat shocks to a GC with standard suspension from factory?

Without going into the details of how Nivomat works, they essentially become part of the spring hence the spring rate both softer and ride height lower compared to one that is standard.

So by installing the Nivomat you may find the rear ride height may become excessively high and the ride will also be excessively harsh.

The ride height has gone up like 2 inches
I compared it with the height of my neighbor's limited with tow package and it is about the same

The ride has not got any harsher, the car actually feels more controlled it does not wallow like it did before.


All the questions you have I did too, but I figured I would try the shocks before I went on to the rear springs

It is weird eventhough the rear is a little higher now the jeep handles like it has sport springs.

I tried it out on a stretch of road that had lots of dips in it where the car used to lauch off of one particular dip and with the nivomat the car stayed on the ground and soaked up the bumps

I bought them from someone who removed them from their car, they were adding lowering springs.

The mounts are different as well as the bump stops and dust sheilds.

I think the mounts come with the shocks as I could not find a part number on them.

I had to buy the bump stops and dust sheilds.

I am definitely going to have to get some new springs if I keep these shocks.

As you can see the shocks have added 2.5 inch to the rear height of the vehicle I measured the other WK2 in the driveway and the distance between the top of the tire and the fender is only 4.5 versus my car which the distant is now 7 inches flat see below

So, I measured mine, original SLS set-up, and here is the picture


It is 14cm, so about 5.5 inch. So, now everything on your side should be right.

You should consider getting the RRO leveling kit. If I remember correctly it raises the front 1.75" I think that would make the stance of your Jeep look much better.

Well for now the reason it is jacked up like that is because I have not installed the correct springs that go with the Nivomats.

I bought the shocks, got the bumpstops and dust shields, I was curious to see what difference they would make so I installed them on the car even though I didn't have the correct springs.

My impression from driving around on them for a week now is that they do improve the overall body control of the vehicle. For now only the rear ride height is affected.

When I have the correct springs installed I will give my impressions on the ride and the ride height after the suspension settles. So far there has been no reduction in the rear ride height.


I would venture to say that adding these is a legitimate way to raise the rear if you wanted taller tires you would just need to find a solution to raise the front if that is the route your are taking

The suspension in the rear has become mre compliant as well and I can also see more of the road again since the rear has settled back down.

the ND suspension spring is slighty longer and the diameter of the spring wire is also thicker than the SLS spring.

I also noticed the Tow Package spring has one less winding on it.
I still don't understand why the non-tow spring would be heavier duty.
