Re: Steering wheel vibration at 70MPH

I had the vibration from day one on my 14 Overland. First trip they checked the alignment. No change. Next they rebalanced the tires. No change. Then the TSB came out, and they changed out the bearings per the TSB. 100% fixed. It is rock solid, and I have the 20s and Goodyears. 5K miles.

I had this same issue. Took the jeep to goodyear the first week I had it, and had the tires road force balanced. Issue resolved. After 5k miles it came back, went back to goodyear shop and they re balanced for free. They noted that 2 rims were wobbling and put them in the rear. Front 2 rims and tires balanced perfectly. I just Road tested the jeep to 90 mph and it ran perfectly (actually better than ever). I have no idea why my rims would have a wobble to them.

probably from pot holes they bend easier than you would think. I bent one already and had to have it replaced. Moving them to the back is just moving your problems to a later date when you rotate they will be on the front and shaking again. i tried to have the bent rim straightened and they didnt do a good job and i ended up replacing it anyway. replacing is expensive though maybe just leave them on the back dont rotate and replace the front tires more frequently

Re: Steering wheel vibration at 70MPH

I took mine to the dealer today and they balanced all 4 tires and the vibration is completely gone. I guess just because a shop has a new Hunter 9700 doesn't mean they know how to use it. I didn't even tell the dealer that I had taken it to another shop first, but they put a note on the paper work that they were improperly balanced by another shop. I am done wasting my time with these independent shops. It seem like every time I try one I end up taking it to the dealer anyhow, so from now on I will just start with the dealer. Also the dealer didn't even charge me for it and I had a loaner for the day.

very true the hunter is useless if a tech doesn't know how to use it or does not take the time to get the numbers as low as possible.

Re: Steering wheel vibration at 70MPH

I wish I read these forums before I bought my 2015 GC Altitude , I have 6100 miles and noticed today shaking in steering wheel around 75-80 on highway. When I slowed down and speed ed back up it was smooth as silk.Making
appointment with dealer ASAP, they do need to be rotated so I'm keeping
fingers crossed

I went though this with 2 Tacoma's a 2012 and 2014 such a nightmare, I
sure hope it's nothing serious and can be fixed.

Good luck Tech1. Mine still does it occasionally. Smooth as silk most of the time, but randomly pretty bad - bad enough I have had passengers notice my hand vibrating on the steering wheel.

Re: Steering wheel vibration at 70MPH

Do you or the dealer have any idea what's causing it , brand of tire, wheel bearing Etc,
and how often does it do it.

Long story. I am running aftermarket wheels and tires, but still have my factory setup. Dealer wont touch it with the aftermarket setup, so they didnt look at it the first time I took it in. A while back I noticed the cv joints leaking, so thought they might be it. Took it to the dealer with the factory rims and they replaced both cv joints and rebalanced the wheels/tires. All was good. Put on my aftermarkets and all was good - for a while. Now, just as before, I have intermittent vibrations. I probably only notice maybe once a week at most. Frustrating though, and I am tired (get it?) of the whole "we can't do anything about it if it doesn't vibrate when we look at it. So, long story short is I am just putting up with it for now.

Re: Steering wheel vibration at 70MPH

Sounds like a long story made short, I hope mine is nothing, just noticed today like I said in my first post. Mine is completely stock maybe a tire rotation is all it needs, it has been pretty smooth to drive specially long trips.
