Same here mine are ultra-quiet. I don't expect a lot off road but on road they probably provide more grip than the suspension tuning is set to feel comfortable at. Granted, you can almost never have enough traction, but for the price these are almost no-brainers for an OEM fit.

It wasn't an awful choice by Chrysler to put these on but not a fantastic one either is all I was getting at. I see a fair bit of warranty concerns with them but not a huge amount. Certainly not as many as the Journey tires.

Will the 18 inch tires with Michelins work ok on the 2014 limited?? Same overall diameter as the stock 20 inch Foreteras?? Thinking of just getting some new car takeoffs and using them when I expect more off road times.

Also, on some road surfaces, I feel some light "buzzing" sounds in the steering wheel as the tires role onto a slight different patch of asphalt. Seem pretty smooth on concrete highways. Also I have not had any balance or vibration issues...have 2K on the GC.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Yes the 18" and latitudes fit. Not sure if that is an exact diameter match but you could check tire rack for that.

The diameter of the 18" with Michelins and the 20" with GY are VERY close (30.5 vs. 30.4"). I seriously doubt the speedometer is calibrated differently at the factory. Going from the 20" to the 18" (or vice versa), you will see 0.3% (+0.3% from 20" to 18", -0.3% going from 18" to 20") difference in the indicated speed. This means you would have to be going 333 MPH to see a 1 MPH difference between indicated speed and actual speed. To sum it up, I think you will be fine switching between the 18" and 20" rims.

Re: Stock GY Fortera 20" > Expectations

Here's my question about the stock 20's on a 2012.. I have heard from new a sound going over bumps that sounds like an aluminum bat hitting an overinflated kickball... The car is otherwise quiet, psi's all perfect, runs great blah blah... So has anyone heard this sound with the stock forteras then gone to something like terra grapplers and it's gone or different? That would sway me to change very soon if the answer was yes..

Thanks.

Had forteras on this wk2 and a 2010 explorer. Never heard that sound before...did hear a similiar sound on a SUV when the rubber c-joint came loose and let the sway bar bang against the frame when I hit a bump.

How much power does all that beefy tread suck from your engine? This is one of the main reasons I'm leery about getting more aggressive tires, at least until they come out with a tune for the 2014.

Re: Stock GY Fortera 20" > Expectations

None i can tell. They are 6# heavier but i dont notice accel issues. Im sure theres more resistance at speed, dont know mpg yet but i carry a roof pod so who cares 17 vs 16.5??

I couldnt tell major changes in unsprung wt on my z06 on a race track so im not surprised i cant tell this..

Theory and actuality often dont equate unless theory contaminates observation with placebo effect, no?

I need to have them rebalance a wheel as i do have a tiny vib now at speed. If this cant be fixed ill report back, but i dont plame the tire for this.

If the car is any less quiuck it is all that or more smoother with the extra rubber under there, but a bit louder with windows down, when up cant tell difference.

Also had an ecu reflash for tranny i think, so hard to tell what is exactly the tires.

Re: Stock GY Fortera 20" > Expectations

The Fortera was designed for the Grand Cherokee. It's cheap to replace. I'm pleased so far with the it's road manners. Smooth ride! On some job sites they also preformed well especially in mud. Can't complain, good wear at 10800 miles. Recently took a trip through the North Carolina mountains. I took a "Spirited" drive through the mountainous roads on a Sunday morning and the combination of the 8 speed transmission downshifting and the tires at 40lbs ,I felt very comfortable pushing it. The 2014 outperformed my 2005 and 2010 GC with Michelin's.Preformed as well if not better than my MB. When replacement comes along I will choose the Fortera's. Can't beat the price.
Balance issues I have had with other GC have been the wheels. Not the tire.
