The sound you hear might be the rear shocks. I hear the same noise. I don't know if you have the load leveling shocks but it's a known problem. I started hearing it at about 4K mile. Dealer replaced them and the sound went away for about another 4K miles but it's back. If I have a load it doesn't make the sound. I'm taking it back soon to see if they can correct it. I also have the 20" wheel package.

My Forteras started a similar ding when they wore down, at perhaps 25,000 miles. I don't have the ding with Nitto 421Qs, but they are still new.

Re: Stock GY Fortera 20" > Expectations

I have 42K on the OEM Forteras and they are not quite at the wear bars yet - and of course we are coming into winter! Good enough for 3 season, just don't trust them for winter weather. No complaints, no noises, no handling issues or anything with the forteras at all. Never been balanced and only rotated once in 2 years. wifey's DD - lots of highway trips between VA and Philly - many in the rain with no issues. We also tow the 3700lbs Coleman E3 camper with no issues
Looking at the Yokohama Parada Spec-X, but really want the Bridgestone AT Revo 2, but they don't make it in the 'correct' size for the 20's we have.

Re: Stock GY Fortera 20" > Expectations

I'm pretty convinced my next tires will be the new Nitto NT421Q. I'm just trying to decide if I want to do that now or wait. I have a small non-structural bit of damage on one sidewall and will be discussing with my independent maintainer next week when I get my 24K oil change done. Tread isn't even close to being ready for replacement on the Forteras and I have no complaints with them, but if there is a real safety issue, I'll do the deed.

I've read somewhere, I think here months ago, that the paradas will squirm around a bit when towing, soft sidewalls or something. For towing you may want to limit yourself to XL load rated tires.

Re: Stock GY Fortera 20" > Expectations

Well I am at the 50,000mi mark and have about 10-15,000mi left on the tread. someone said in a earlier post "winter is coming" Better replace before you are in a position that (I KNEW I SHOULD OF GOTTEN THEM LAST WEEK) I am set for Cooper LTZs... read some members reviews on them and they seem to be a good all around tire.

Has anybody considered or bought Toyo Versado CUV or Open Country H/T as on-road or commuter tires?

Re: Stock GY Fortera 20" > Expectations

I put the Toyo Versado on my Infiniti FX-35 - they sucked so bad and I managed to get the shop to give me a full refund - put towards a different tire.

I know this is an old thread, but I thought I'd bring up that I used the Open Country H/T with my old WJ. I used to use them exclusively for years and they were pretty good. However, when I finally decided to get Goodyear Silent Armor tires I realized how loud the Open Country's were. I didn't go offroading much and the snow periodically. They worked pretty well.

I'm on 48,000 with the GY tires on my 2012 WK2. They haven't been bad considering I've had them since Nov. 2011. Smooth, quiet ride. I need new tires (or so the dealer says). I was looking at the Yokohamas and the Bridgestones, but I think in the end I'll stay with the Goodyears.

Re: Stock GY Fortera 20" > Expectations

Just installed Nitto Terra Graplers - a day before the snow we got in DC metro. Beefy tire - they are louder than the stock GY fortera's, but not too bad. Handled the crappy weather great (so far)
